โ A Texas oil company has agreed to pay a $115,000 fine after spilling almost 20,000 gallons (73,000 liters) of wastewater and crude in western Wyoming, federal officials said Wednesday. The 2018 spill by Merit Energy Company came after a pipeline broke at a battery of oil tanks northwest of Thermopolis, Wyoming, according to the settlement. Some of the spilled water and oil reached Grass Creek, a tributary of the Big Horn River. An Environmental Protection Agency Investigation found that the Dallas-based company did not have an adequate emergency response plan in place as required under the federal Clean Water Act. The company has since submitted a new response plan and completed a cleanup of the site.

Average Texas gas price up 7 cents a gallon, but San Antonioโs still among lowest in state
SAN ANTONIO โ Gas prices have ticked up in the past week, but the trend of prices staying below $2 per gallon this year in Texas continues. According to AAA Texas, gas prices in the state average at $1.95 per gallon, which is below the national average of $2.24 as of Christmas Eve. Gas prices in the San Antonio region are averaging around $1.86 per gallon, some of the lowest prices in the state. Gas prices have been below $2 per gallon since March, the longest such stretch in Texas since 2005. Zuber said while low gas prices are usually an incentive for holiday travelers, the pandemic has changed driving patterns.

CAMARILLO, Calif. โ The average U.S. price of regular-grade gasoline fell half a penny over the past two weeks to just under $2.25 per gallon. Industry analyst Trilby Lundberg of the Lundberg Survey said Sunday prices may change a little in the coming days as hurricanes pummel the Gulf Coast, impacting oil production. Still, a decline in demand for gasoline because of the pandemic means there is plenty of petroleum available for motorists. Nationwide, the highest average price for regular-grade gas is in the San Francisco Bay Area at $3.36 per gallon. The average price of diesel in the survey taken Friday was $2.50 a gallon, down a penny from two weeks earlier.

SAN ANTONIO โ Gas prices are climbing in the Lone Star State including here in San Antonio. The average price-per-gallon of gas in Texas as of July 16 is $1.92, while the national average is $2.20. The San Antonio average is $1.91, up 9 cents from one week ago, AAA reported. According to AAA data, Texas gas prices have risen 4 cents-per-gallon in the last week but the price is still 60 cents less per gallon compared to prices in July 2019. The record high for gas prices in Texas was $3.98 in July 2008 and the record high for San Antonio was $3.96 in the same month.

Gas prices expected to drop into FebruaryOut of all the cities in Texas, drivers in Midland are paying the most for gas, at an average of $2.38 per gallon, while drivers in Sherman/Denison are paying the least for gas, at $1.96 per gallon, according to the study. Gas is expected to cost less than $2 a gallon at gas stations in every state in the South and Southeast, except in Florida, AAA reports.
