Southwest ISD police push for integrated active shooter training for responding agencies during emergency calls
Southwest Independent School District police officers have been receiving more active shooter drills training this summer as they prepare for a new school year. The district's chief is calling for an integrated training exercise involving agencies called to assist in an emergency.
Free COVID-19 tests for Southside, Southwest and Judson ISD students returning from spring break
SAN ANTONIO – Community Labs has partnered with three San Antonio-area school districts to provide free COVID-19 testing this weekend before students and staff return to class after spring break. Students and employees in Southside, Southwest and Judson school districts and their families can be tested at no charge and without proof of insurance. Southside ISD will have two Covid-19 testing sites on Saturday. Southwest ISD will have one testing location on Saturday. Educational Resource Center (ERC) at 8205 Palisades Dr., Live Oak, 78233 will offer testing from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday.

San Antonio city officials said the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center will remain open through Friday as a warming center. Southside ISD opened up a 24-hour warming center at Losoya Middle School Gym, at 1610 Martinez Losoya Road. The City of New Braunfels will also provide a warming center at the New Braunfels Civic and Convention Center at 375 South Castell Ave. To find the closest warming shelter, please use the map here or for information on additional assistance and resources call 2-1-1.
Southwest ISD breaks ground Friday on $24 million aquatics center
SAN ANTONIO – The Southwest Independent School District held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new 35,000-square-foot aquatics center on Friday. According to a press release from Southwest ISD, the aquatics center will be one of only a handful of aquatics centers south of Highway 90 and will provide students with opportunities for swimming instruction as well as host competitions. “The aquatics center has been a longtime dream for Southwest families. Legacy's comeback kids claim Fire and Armor Bowl III
Throwing out the first Fire and Armor Bowl — when a veteran Southwest team stomped Southwest Legacy in its first varsity season — the last two games have been decided in overtime and in the final 37 seconds. Legacy (3-2, 1-0) has procured both after prevailing 17-14 in Fire and Armor Bowl III on Oct. 22 at the Alamodome. “These kids just play with such passion,” Southwest Legacy coach John Tarvin said. “As great of a player as Andre Mitchell is, he can’t do it all.”Fire and Armor Bowl III was scoreless after a quarter and Legacy led 10-7 at halftime. San Antonians line up to receive their flu shots from the comfort of their cars
SAN ANTONIO – San Antonians braved Saturday morning’s cooler weather to answer the call from health officials to get a flu shot. “Having the flu shot really will help the hospital systems, enable them to continue helping those with COVID and not overwhelm (hospitals) with (cases of) the flu,” Anita Uribe Martin said. Anyone ages six months and older qualify to get a flu shot, according to health officials. University Health System said they have hundreds more vaccines available that will be administered to those who register for the next two events. The next drive-thru flu shot will take place on November 7 at the Dub Farris Athletic Complex.

North East and Southwest ISDs, Alamo Colleges Delay May Trustee Elections
The boards of North East and Southwest independent school districts voted Tuesday to push trustee elections that were initially scheduled for May 2 to Election Day on Nov. 3. Alamo Colleges board voted Tuesday night to delay their May election and will send a letter to Gov. Abbott announced in mid-March that local governmental entities could delay May elections to November in light of the coronavirus pandemic. In San Antonio, North East ISD, Southwest ISD, and Alamo Colleges were scheduled to have trustee elections in May. Alamo Colleges trustees voted unanimously to delay the May trustee elections.therivardreport.com
