PORT ARANSAS, Texas โ Whooping cranes, the tallest and rarest birds in North America, according to Texas Parks and Wildlife officials, have been spotted along the Texas coast. According to Harrell, the drought much of Texas is experiencing makes the birds' migration harder. Whooping cranes are sometimes found in mixed flocks with sandhill cranes, which are gray and slightly smaller. Port Aransas beaches will close to vehicles as mayor issues declaration of disaster
PORT ARANSAS, Texas โ Port Aransas beaches will be closed to vehicle traffic starting at 8 p.m. Thursday through at least Saturday. Charles Bujan, mayor of Port Aransas made the initial proclamation Tuesday and amended it Wednesday, keeping the time beaches will remain closed to vehicle traffic open-ended. Beaches will reopen to motor traffic โwhen the mayor deems the beach to be safely accessible by vehicles," according to the proclamation. Nueces County order banning vehicles on Corpus Christi, Port A beaches expires, curfew remains
SAN ANTONIO โ Beaches in Nueces County have reopened to vehicles as an order put in place to help stunt the spread of COVID-19 has expired. Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales said Friday that the order, which closed vehicle access points at beaches within the county, will end on Monday, according to multiple reports. The newspaper reported that the modified order will restrict access to areas of beaches damaged by Hurricane Hanna. The order was put in place in July as the county asked tourists to stay home for the sake of social distancing. He said enforcing the order โdepleted all of our overtime budgetsโ in providing 24-hour policing.

Blue button jellyfish spotted at Texas beaches
PORT ARANSAS, Texas โ A KSAT employee sent in photos of blue button jellyfish that she spotted in Port Aransas Monday evening after storms in the area started clearing up. The scientific name for the jellyfish is Porpita porpita and they are closely related to Portuguese man oโwars, but donโt sting as ferociously, said Texas Parks and Wildlife science director Mark Fisher.
