A report obtained by KSAT Investigates has finally revealed the name of the San Antonio establishment at the center of a Texas Game Wardens shark fin investigation last spring as Broadway staple Vanโs Restaurant.

Popular San Antonio breakfast restaurant to open third location on Friday
SAN ANTONIO โ Fans of breakfast in the Cibolo area will soon have a new spot to enjoy. Magnolia Pancake Haus announced on its Facebook page that a third location is opening on Friday, Dec. 18. The popular breakfast restaurant will bring its delicious pancakes to Cibolo right off I-35 just north of 3009. Magnolia Pancake Haus has been a staple in San Antonio for 20 years with its first location on Embassy Oaks and the second on Huebner Road.
โRoach activityโ near hot tea table leads to write up for North Side restaurant
SAN ANTONIO โ A restaurant on the cityโs North Side was cited last month after a health inspector found food stored in a cooler that was not working. Tokyo Steak House, located in the 9400 block of San Pedro Avenue, received a score of 84 and was forced to toss out vegetables and eggs being held in the cooler, city health records show. The restaurant was also written up after evidence of โroach activityโ was found near the establishmentโs hot tea table. Fire damages Burger King restaurant on east side of San Antonio
SAN ANTONIO โ A grease fire damaged the roof of a Burger King restaurant Monday morning on the cityโs East Side. When firefighters arrived at the restaurant around 9:30 a.m. in the 1800 block of South W.W. White Road, they found a faulty piece of equipment in the kitchen ignited the flames. โWe do believe it was probably a kitchen fire grease maybe got up into some of the vents,โ said Woody Woodward, a spokesman with the San Antonio Fire Department. โA grease fire like that can spread through the vents and can be hard to chase down.โWoodward said employees and two customers who were inside the restaurant got out safely. A damage estimate wasnโt immediately available and itโs not known when the restaurant will reopen.

The survey found that itโs costing more to run a restaurant right now even as most owners say theyโre bringing in less money. While 80% of restaurant operators say their total dollar sales volume was down in August of 2020 compared to a year ago, 73% say operation costs are higher now than they were pre-pandemic. Texas Restaurant Association pushes for change to help reopen certain businesses
SAN ANTONIO โ Back-and-forth bar and restaurant closures have led to a push for change from the Texas Restaurant Association (TRA). In June, Governor Greg Abbott issued an executive order which forced Texas bars to close after a surge in COVID-19 cases. โI just had a huge food order come, and he gave us exactly three hours,โ he said. The Texas Restaurant Association is showing support for businesses like Speciaโs. Specia said Highlanders qualifies as a restaurant, but he is not sure if his business will return.

Texas Restaurant Relief Fund expands to support vandalized restaurants
Protests have erupted all over the country in response to George Floyds death and police brutality, and many bars and restaurants and Texas have been vandalized in the wake of protesting. The Texas Restaurant Relief Fund was created to help restaurants and bars stay afloat during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Texas Restaurant Association announced that funds will also be going to independent businesses who have suffered due to the protests and riots. The relief fund was created in late March, and since then, the fund has raised and distributed $2.23 million in grants of up to $5,000 to more than 400 restaurants in Texas. Mi Tierra making big changes to keep customers safe as it prepares to reopen Wednesday
SAN ANTONIO โ Some big changes are in store at Mi Tierra as staff members work to get the restaurant as clean as possible before reopening on Wednesday. Gerardo Carbajal, manager of Mi Tierra, said the building has been cleaned from top to bottom. "If you come to Mi Tierra, you see we're known for all the decorations and the culture that goes through the walls of Mi Tierra. Instead, customers will find a QR code, where they can access the menu through their smartphone. All these steps are to help protect customers in what the restaurant owners are calling the new normal.
