On Sunday, concerned citizens from Tarpley, Bandera and Hondo will meet to discuss a permit that would allow the discharge of pollutants from treated sewage into Commissioners Creek in Tarpley. Commissioners Creek is a spring fed tributary to Hondo Creek and the Frio River, and is part of the Nueces River Watershed and Edwards Aquifer Recharge Zone. Friends of Hondo Canyon, a non-profit organized by more than 55 families from the area, are asking the camp owners to agree to a zero-discharge permit that would prevent the pollution of the environmentally sensitive waterway. The meeting on Sunday is open to all area landowners, and will begin at 2 p.m. at Anton Haner Center, the old Tarpley School House, 25 Valentine Lane in Tarpley. Friends of Hondo Canyon members will answer neighbors questions regarding the permit, review environmental consequences of the discharge and organize supporters to attend the TCEQ public meeting on Aug. 26.

Jeanette Jo Franks, 75, of Bandera, passed away on February 4, 2017 in Bandera. She was born in Quincy, Illinios to Louis Gene and Ruth Elizabeth LeMatty on June 12, 1941.
