By evening, the country's electoral commission had released provisional results from fewer than half of the country's 108 departments. It wasn't immediately clear when a final tally would be announced, but the opposition continued to attack the legitimacy of the vote itself. Pascal Affi N’Guessan, one of the top opposition candidates who later boycotted the vote, said late Monday that Henri Konan Bedie, the country's 86-year-old former president, would head up a council of transition. Only one of the three opposition candidates actively campaigned against Ouattara after the two others called for a boycott. The observer mission also said Monday that the exclusion of most candidates had compromised the integrity of Ivory Coast's election.

SAN ANTONIO – Halloween may have ended yesterday, but San Antonio ghosts, ghouls and candy lovers can still rake in free candy at the San Antonio Zoo’s Día De Candy event. Since the 1970s the performers have dedicated their traditional dances for Day of the Dead. It will sit alongside fresh flowers and Salazar's blouse on Day of the Dead, a holiday that Salazar actually didn't care for much. She decided not to schedule surgery until after Day of the Dead because she wanted to honor her mother properly. Ofelia, 88, is a fifth-generation altar-maker, and both were cultural advisers on Disney-Pixar's “Coco," a movie centered around Day of the Dead. Besides the pandemic-induced sadness, the Esparzas believe Latinos are more interested in observing Day of the Dead. “Just like Mother's Day and Father’s Day this year, this is when people go visit their loved ones.”Ultimately, some say pageantry isn't what's important.

SAN ANTONIO – Several skulls have been spotted across the city, but you don’t need to be alarmed. The skulls are part of the official celebrations of Day of the Dead in San Antonio. SAN ANTONIO – Dia de Muertos commemorates those who have passed away, and some people celebrate by making altars. Good Morning San Antonio Anchor Stephanie Serna’s daughter, Rooney, made an altar for her grandfather this year as a school project. (KSAT)Rooney said your loved ones still think about you every day, and you should never forget about them. “It’s important because they might be happy, like not just happy, but super happy,” Rooney said. “They might think of you every day.”Whether it’s big or small, making an altar for a loved one who’s passed is a great way to remember them.

The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center is getting ready for its annual Day of the Dead programming, and it’s partnering with AARP for workshops. Community members are invited to build altars to celebrate their loved ones who have passed. For those who are not as familiar with Day of the Dead (Dia de Muertos), AARP has listed some insight on the celebration. “The main thing that goes into it is the love and remembrance of their loved ones,” said Cristina Balli, executive director for the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center. SAN ANTONIO – Vibrant and joyful spirits will float along the most iconic waters of San Antonio for the Día de los Muertos River Parade. Chef Johnny Hernández, who’s spearheading the events of Day of the Dead across San Antonio, worked closely with city leaders, companies from Mexico and KSAT12 News to brainstorm how to celebrate in a safe way. The best option was to prerecord a river parade closed to the public. Paco Enríquez, technical director of El Volador, works with his team from Mexico to make sure every detail is taken care of ahead of Friday's river parade. “For me, my favorite is the Aztec (barge) because it represents the crossing of the river of life and death,” Enríquez said.

The events were organized by Senior Planet, a nonprofit that helps older adults bridge the digital divide, and the Latino Collection and Resource Center at the San Antonio Public Library. DeAnne Cuellar, state director of Older Adults Technology Services, said since the information was posted on the Senior Planet website, the response has been overwhelming. “Lots of curiosity from people outside of San Antonio,” Cuellar said. Lawrence Lucido, a member of Senior Planet, said he’s among many others who are excited about the program. “We as the whole country are experiencing a collective loss right now.”Cuellar said the free sessions can be viewed by anyone on the Senior Planet website and on its Facebook page.

If they couldn’t pay, the bodies of their loved ones were removed from the crypts and stored in a building. In his latest venture, Hernández has partnered with the grocery giant to offer an experience where heaven, earth and technology meet through an altar kit. “As a surprise and delight for our customers, we will give them out free as part of select orders placed via H-E-B Curbside. H-E-B to distribute Día de Muertos altar kits. H-E-B and Hernández will also distribute painting kits that include a paper mâché skull, a variety of paints and a brush.

GUANAJUATO, Mexico – For many, Pixar’s “Coco" is considered to be one of the most culturally significant children’s movies in history. It connected with audiences across Central and North America, bringing Dia de Muertos to life and showcasing the traditions associated with the celebration. In February, a KSAT crew traveled to Guanajuato, Mexico to visit some of the sites that inspired the film. Guanajuato’s famous Callejon del Beso can be seen in the “Coco” scene when Miguel speaks to his grandmother in the Land of the Dead. But at its heart, “Coco” was about family and traditions built through generations of ancestors.

SAN ANTONIO – Day of the Dead is about honoring loved ones that have passed on, and sugar skulls help do just that. You can decorate the sugar skulls with glitter, feathers, colored foil and you can write the name of your deceased loved one on its forehead. As for why they’re made of sugar?
