CASTROVILLE, Texas – A Castroville teen has taken what originally started as an interest and turned it into a full-fledged and successful business operation. “I had found some old boxes my grandfather used to keep bees back in the 1980s,” 16-year-old Trent Anderson, owner of BeeSpace explains. The interest then turned into full-fledged beekeeping, bee removal and a honey business, called BeeSpace. ”There are a lot of foods that rely on bees,” Trent said. I don’t think everything will come crashing down, but an ecosystem of just monocultures propagated by farmers, that’s a pretty depressing world.”AdTrent hopes to have 1,000 hives in two years.

White said Athen was one of a kind and had big dreams of going to college and working in the mental health field. 18-year-old arrested in connection with teenager found shot in field near Castroville

An 18-year-old was arrested in Bexar County on Friday in connection with the fatal shooting of a teenager found in a field just south of Castroville, the Medina County Sheriff's Office said. At around 9 p.m. on Dec. 2, Medina County sheriff's deputies were called to a field on Lower LaCoste Road after callers reported seeing a male lying on the ground. The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed the teen's death the following day. On Friday, deputies executed a search warrant at a home near the 12000 block of Paseo Derecho in Bexar County and arrested Garcia. The Medina County deputies said they have evidence tying Garcia to the location and shooting but did not divulge details or how the two were connected.

MEDINA COUNTY, Texas – The body of a 16-year-old shooting victim was found in a field just outside of the Castroville city limits, according to the Medina County Sheriff’s Office. SAN ANTONIO – A woman is accused of cutting her ex-boyfriend in the face after entering his home unannounced, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies say the man was sleeping in his bedroom at his house and woke up to Perez, his ex-girlfriend, inside. He asked her what she was doing in the house, told her to leave and followed her as she left, deputies said. While in the front yard, Perez grabbed what is believed to be a putty knife and slashed the man in the face, the affidavit states. He told deputies he heard Perez say, “You’re faking it!

Former animal control officer pleads guilty to role in alleged fraudulent insurance claim scheme

SAN ANTONIO – A former animal control officer admitted his role in a fraudulent insurance claim scheme involving a former police chief and another person, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Texas. Prosecutors said former Castroville Animal Control Officer Ambrose Rymers pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy. By pleading guilty, Rymers admitted to assisting former Castroville police chief Chris Filline and another person in a fraudulent scheme to collect insurance proceeds, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Filline electronically submitted an insurance claim to Farmers Insurance Group three days later. The indictment charges Filline and the third individual with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, prosecutors said.

The Castroville City Council unanimously voted to fire Felline in December 2018 after the accusations were reported by KSAT.

Coyotes battle MV in district opener

The Uvalde Coyotes will begin District 28-5A basketball action Tuesday when they go up against the Medina Valley Panthers at Castroville. The varsity game is set for a 6:30 p.m. tipoff, while both sub-varsity games between the Coyotes and the Panthers will start at 5 p.m.Coach Alex Oyolas Coyotes, 2-8 for the season, will enter their district opener against Medina Valley coming off of weekend tournament action at Hondo. On the opening day of the tourney, the Coyotes lost a 64-52 decision to the tourney host Hondo Owls. The Coyotes have an open date in their hoops schedule Friday. Tuesday night, the Coyotes lost in road action against the Laredo LBJ Wolves, but the score from the game and scoring statistics from the contest were not available at presstime. The Coyotes lost their four tourney games. In action last Friday, the Coyotes lost a 70-45 decision to the tourney host Tivy Antlers.
