Two male penguins at SeaWorld San Antonio are raising a chick of a different penguin species together, park officials said. It isn't uncommon for penguins to foster an egg, but it is less common that it is a same-sex pair, said SeaWorld aviculturist Jason Medina. In the SeaWorld San Antonio habitat, penguins are tracked with identification numbers so keepers can monitor and watch for behavioral patterns. "Most new pairs tend to lose their eggs and it takes a few seasons before they successfully incubate an egg." A pair of penguins has to sit on the eggs to incubate the chick while also protecting it from predators and the cold.
