Man accused of 2019 fatal shooting of taxicab driver in Windcrest arrested; Affidavit implicates second suspect
A man accused of fatally shooting a taxicab driver in Windcrest two years ago was arrested Friday on the West Side of San Antonio, and an arrest affidavit implicates at least one other suspect in the crime.
Dognapping suspect accused in multiple cases arrested, Windcrest police say
WINDCREST, Texas โ Pet owners living in and around Windcrest are relieved after the arrest of a man accused of stealing other peopleโs dogs. Cody Lee Canfield, 33, was arrested Monday and charged for the incident involving a 68-year-old woman who was gardening last Monday. The victim provided a license plate number and video she captured of the incident to police, leading to Canfieldโs arrest. AdHernandez said Bexar County deputies who were assisting with this case discovered Canfield after he wrecked his vehicle near his home. โI know there are at least three different cases multiple agencies are dealing with,โ Hernandez said.
Kitchen fire causes roughly $50,000 in damage to Northeast Side home, fire officials say
SAN ANTONIO โ A kitchen fire damaged a home just outside the Windcrest city limits late Wednesday night, fire officials said. The fire was called in around 9:30 p.m. at a home in the 6600 block of Woodford Street, far from New World Drive and Montgomery Drive on the cityโs Northeast Side. Firefighters said when they arrived, they found flames on a wall and coming out of the roof. Fire officials said they were able to put out the fire quickly and without incident. The woman who was cooking inside the home managed to get out safely and was not hurt.
Windcrestโs annual โLight Upโ for the holidays kicks off this weekend
SAN ANTONIO โ The coronavirus pandemic didnโt stop one local holiday tradition from taking place this year. Windcrestโs annual Light Up, when residents decorate their homes with glamorous Christmas lights and displays, will begin on Saturday. Every year, a contest is held and judges decide the best displays in a variety of categories. This yearโs theme is โLet Freedom Ringโ to pay tribute to military members. Windcrest officials said Light Up is made possible by volunteers, the Windcrest Economic Development Corporation and the Windcrest Womenโs Club.
Woman found sleeping in manโs Windcrest home cut him when he told her to leave, police say
The affidavit states the man then left his home to cash a check and to โavoid a confrontationโ with Polivchak. He returned home and began playing loud music in his bedroom, the affidavit states. He then heard glass breaking, turned down the music and yelled at Polivchak to leave, according to investigators. The man grabbed a broom handle and told the woman to leave. The affidavit states Polivchak left the house and waited by the garage โfor her ride.โThe stabbing victim left his house to get help from a nearby fire department.
Windcrest residents hope voting process is faster moving forward in the 2020 election
WINDCREST, Texas โ Like several small cities around Bexar County, the city of Windcrest had its share of long voting lines on the first day of early voting. 33K+ cast ballots on first day of early voting in Bexar CountySome residents were surprised to see lines stretching to the roadway from the Civic Center. Most of the residents KSAT spoke with were excited to see so many letting their voices be heard. However, there were some who were frustrated with why the process seemed to take longer than what they expected. Watch the story in the player above to hear what the residents had to say.
