The Uvalde Coyotes lost a pair of high school sub-varsity football road games last Thursday night at Somerset. Somerset’s Bulldogs beat the Coyotes, 20-8, in junior varsity action, and topped the Uvaldeans, 14-6, in freshman football. World's largest iceberg, equal to size of Somerset, breaks off Antarctica
The world’s largest iceberg, equal in size to Somerset and bigger than the Spanish island of Majorca, has splintered from the frozen edge `of Antarctica and is now adrift in the Weddell Sea. The new sheet of ice, designated A-76, measures approximately 4,320 square km (2,685m) and is significantly larger than the previous title-holder, A-23A, which stretched 3,380 square km (1,305m). The British Antarctic Survey initially spotted the floating berg after it broke off the western side of the Ronne Ice Shelf. Its movement was then confirmed by the European Space Agency’s using images from the Copernicus satellite. Uvalde and Somerset will vie in District 28-5A high school soccer competition Tuesday night. At the Uvalde High School soccer field, the Uvalde Coyotes will host the Somerset Bulldogs, while the Uvalde Lobos will travel to Somerset to take on the Lady Bulldogs. Last Tuesday night, the Coyotes suffered a 7-0 beating at the hands of the San Antonio Harlan Hawks. Following action Tuesday, the Coyotes will be back on the road for district competition against the Floresville Tigers on Friday night. The Uvalde Coyotes will play their first home basketball game of 2020 on Tuesday when they host the Somerset Bulldogs. Action in the varsity game is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. in Harvey Kinchlow Gym. Driver killed after slamming into electrical pole on Southwest Side
SAN ANTONIO - A driver was killed after slamming into an electrical pole on the Southwest Side early Saturday morning, police said. The medical examiner's office identified as 66-year-old David Flores. The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. near Somerset and Palo Alto. Police said the driver was speeding, lost control and missed a sharp curve. Witnesses reported seeing the driver swerving before the crash.
