SAN ANTONIO โ Bexar County Sheriffโs Office deputies stopped a 13-year-old who was driving the wrong way on Highway 16 in South Bexar County Wednesday night. BCSO officials said the incident began when a deputy noticed a vehicle driving recklessly on the highway near the Atascosa County line. A deputy initiated a pursuit, but then canceled it for an unknown reason. The pursuit was initiated for a second time when the deputy saw the vehicle heading southbound in the northbound lanes, according to authorities. The vehicle crashed into another car, bringing the pursuit to a halt.

SAN ANTONIO โ A search is underway for more than 100 smuggled immigrants who took off into the woods after fleeing from a refrigerated truck at a QuikTrip gas station in south Bexar County, according to Sheriff Javier Salazar. 1 dead in single vehicle crash in South Bexar County, BCSO says
BEXAR COUNTY, Texas โ One person is dead following a vehicle crash in South Bexar County early Monday morning, the Bexar County Sheriffโs Office said. The crash happened around midnight in the 3300 block of Hardy Road, not far from Campbellton Road and Interstate 37. According to deputies, the single-vehicle wreck started close to I-37 but ended up closer to Campbellton Road. One person was pronounced dead at the scene. At this time, not much information is known about the crash.
Vigil held for driver who died in fiery crash on I-37 in South Bexar County
Community members gathered to support the family of Robert Moore, who died in a crash on I-37 last week, by holding a vigil. Moore, 53, was driving a semi-truck when it drifted off of I-37 near Loop 1604 last week before it burst into flames. On Thursday, community members gathered to remember Moore and offer support for his family and friends. The group also sent off balloons as a final goodbye. The crash happened around 9 p.m. in the 24500 block of Highway 281 South near Mogford Road in South Bexar County. The medical examinerโs office on Thursday identified the man as 58-year-old Jesse Flores. The sheriffโs office did say when found, the driver of the vehicle will be charged with failure to stop and render aid.
Ammunition in burning shed creates dangerous situation for firefighters
SAN ANTONIO โ Firefighters battling a fire in a shed in far south Bexar County had to stand up to more than just danger from the flames and smoke. They also were met by ammunition exploding inside that burning shed. A Bexar County Sheriffโs Office deputy was the first to arrive at the scene on Black Powder near Wilted Oak shortly after 4:30 a.m. Monday. He said he saw large flames coming from the back portion of the property and could hear ammunition going off inside the shed. At one point, they were concerned that it might spread to a home near the shed.
Authorities ID 2 women killed in head-on crash along Loop 1604 in south Bexar County
SAN ANTONIO โ The Bexar County Medical Examinerโs Office has identified two women who were killed in a crash on Wednesday morning in South Bexar County. Christine Badillo, 28, and Amanda Yvette Jimenez, 30, died at the scene of the crash on Loop 1604 and Benton City Road, between Somerset Road and Interstate 35, authorities said. Officials with the Bexar County Sheriffโs Office said a vehicle going westbound on Loop 1604 at a high rate of speed began to veer off the side of the road, and when the driver tried to get the vehicle back in the lane, they overcompensated and went into oncoming traffic. The vehicle struck another vehicle that was headed eastbound. It is not clear which vehicle the two passengers were riding in.
DPS chase ends with crash into gas pumps at South Bexar County gas station
The crash occurred at an Exxon gas station near Loop 1604 and Interstate 35 South. According to DPS, the chase involved state troopers and began around 8 a.m. in Atascosa County when Frio County deputies first tried to pull the vehicle over. Troopers chased the truck through Medina County and into South Bexar County where the truck crashed into a gas pump at Loop 1604 and I-35, DPS said. Seven passengers inside the truck tried to flee, but they have all been caught, DPS said. The Bexar County Sheriffโs Office and the Bexar County Fire Department both assisted at the scene.

SAN ANTONIO โ Two people were killed in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning in South Bexar County. According to BCSO, a vehicle traveling westbound on Loop 1604 between Somerset Road and Interstate 35 at a high rate of speed began to run off the side of the road, when the driver tried to get back into its lane and overcompensated. The vehicle swerved onto oncoming traffic and struck another vehicle coming in the opposite direction. Two people were dead at the scene, BCSO said. Loop 1604 was closed in both directions for several hours and reopened around 12:40 p.m.
Man walking in middle of roadway struck by vehicle, BCSO says
BEXAR COUNTY, Texas โ The Bexar County Sheriffโs Office is investigating after a man was struck by a vehicle in South Bexar County early Tuesday morning. According to deputies, the driver, a man in his 40s, was heading home from work and was headed south on Mathis Road when he hit the man who was walking in the middle of the roadway. The victim, a man in his 30s, was sent flying toward a fence and suffered serious injuries, deputies said. Investigators say the man hit lives nearby and was walking in the middle of the traffic lane when the crash occurred. The driver of the vehicle did stop and tried to help the man until EMS arrived.

Driver crashes into deputys patrol car during chase in South Bexar County
SAN ANTONIO A driver is in custody after leading deputies and state troopers on a high-speed vehicle chase in South Bexar County, the Bexar County Sheriffs Office said. The chase began around 9:30 p.m. when Texas Department of Public Safety troopers tried to pull the vehicle over, but the driver refused. According to BCSO, both DPS troopers and deputies chased the vehicle with assistance from SAPDs Eagle helicopter. Johnny Garcia, a BCSO spokesperson, said the vehicle struck a deputys cruiser before finally stopping near Interstate 35 and Southwest Military Drive. The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody and DPS handled the arrest, Garcia said.

Honduran woman in 20s found dead in South Bexar County, abandoned on side of road
SAN ANTONIO โ A woman in her 20s who had been traveling with other immigrants was found dead late Sunday after she was abandoned by the group in South Bexar County. Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said the womanโs body was found on the side of the road around 11 p.m. in the 20000 block of South Jett Road. The woman is believed to be an undocumented immigrant from Honduras and was traveling to Houston with a group of people, he said. Salazar said deputies believe the woman was left behind after becoming unconscious, and she may have passed out from heat exhaustion. A concerned family member called deputies and told them about the woman, he said.

Firefighters battle massive trailer fire in South Bexar County
SAN ANTONIO โ Area firefighters battled a massive trailer fire in South Bexar County overnight, the Bexar County Sheriff's office said. The fire was called in just before 2 a.m. at a home in the 350 block of Hallmark Path, not far from Highway 281 and Pleasanton Road and just south of Loop 1604. Emergency responders said they arrived to find the trailer fully-involved. The Bexar County Fire Department said they were cautious with the fire because part of the structure collapsed. โDonโt shoot meโ: Deputy shoots man after believing he had weapon, officials say
The man stopped has been identified as Mario Espinosa Jr., 39. Ronald Bennett, assistant chief deputy of law enforcement, said the man told the deputy he did not have a driver's license but instead gave him an ID. When the deputy tried to arrest the man, Bennett said, the man began to also act strangely. Bennett said the deputy had his weapon drawn at the man and fired at him when the man dived "head first into the side of the truck." The deputy believed the man was going to retrieve a weapon, officials said.
