SAN ANTONIO โ The San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo has released a new schedule for its 2021 events after freezing weather conditions caused icy roads, plus power and water outages this week. The rodeo, which kicked off on Feb. 12, will continue on Friday with a PRCA rodeo followed by entertainment. All livestock events have been rescheduled until Friday, Feb. 19. Organizers have continued to closely monitor weather conditions and has updated the Rodeo schedule for the safety of our rodeo athletes, livestock exhibitors and volunteers. SAN ANTONIO โ The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo has continued to closely monitor weather conditions and has updated the Rodeo schedule for the safety of our rodeo athletes, livestock exhibitors and volunteers. Below are the updates to the schedule:PRCA RodeoThe Wednesday, February 17 PRCA Rodeo has been rescheduled to Sunday, February 21 at 1 p.m. with Randall King. The Thursday, February 18 PRCA Rodeo has been rescheduled to Saturday, February 27 at 1 p.m. The Sunday, February 21 PRCA Rodeo at 4 p.m. has been moved to 7 p.m. followed by entertainment with Randall King. Miss Rodeo Texas makes history, keeps crown for 2nd year due to pandemic
SAN ANTONIO โ Miss Rodeo Texas Jordan Maldonado is making a historic trip back to the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual competition to crown a new Miss Rodeo Texas was canceled. The cancellation means Maldonado gets to keeps her sash, buckle and hat and ride into the Freeman Coliseum to perform her rodeo duties for a history-making second year in a row. AdSince then, Maldonado has been able to appear at a few smaller rodeos, but San Antonio by far is her biggest event since the pandemic started. Maldonado said she is excited to be a part of rodeo this year since it will be held at the Freeman Coliseum.

Freeman Coliseum strengthens COVID-19 protocols ahead of San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo
SAN ANTONIO โ Freeman Coliseum Executive Director Derrick Howard announced several new COVID-19 prevention measures in a letter penned to the Bexar County Commissioners Court days ahead of the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. AdThe letter, sent to the Commissioners Court on Tuesday, came one week after Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff asked organizers to postpone the rodeo. Wolff noted that Austin and Fort Worth canceled their rodeos and Houston postponed its rodeo because of the pandemic. Despite the concerns, organizers plan to continue on with the event and have said that prevention measures implemented exceed current health guidelines. Frost invites public to free, drive-thru chuck wagon breakfast, lunch events in February
Frost to host several chuck wagon breakfast and lunch events in February. Frost is offering a few opportunities to do just that with four free, drive-thru and socially distanced chuck wagon breakfasts or lunches. Some San Antonio students, teachers say a lot is riding on the livestock show going on as scheduled
SAN ANTONIO โ With major events being canceled or postponed because of the coronavirus, some participating in the San Antonio Livestock Show are concerned. โWeโre going to hope that it doesnโt get canceled and weโre going to push forward as if itโs happening just like it would in a normal year,โ said Peggy Georg, Jourdanton High School Teacher. Jourdanton High School senior Clair Vyvlecka has been participating in the San Antonio Livestock Show for 10 years. Students at James Madison High School have also been preparing for the livestock show for months. About 120 Madison High School students will be participating in this yearโs livestock show.
Rodeo Houston 2021 canceled over COVID-19 concerns
HOUSTON โ The ongoing concerns over the coronavirus pandemic has forced officials to cancel Rodeo Houston 2021, according to KSATโs sister website, Click2Houston.com. The event was originally postponed to May but Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo officials decided it was best to cancel altogether. Austin and Fort Worth have canceled their rodeos in 2021. Despite a plea from Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff to postpone the 2021 San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, citing COVID-19 concerns, rodeo officials said Tuesday the show will go on. County judge asks SA Stock Show & Rodeo to postpone, but organizers say show will go on
SAN ANTONIO โ Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff wants the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo postponed due to COVID-19 concerns, though it looks unlikely to happen. I suggested that it would be best to postpone the rodeo for now,โ Wolff wrote to Loeffler. โIn the event that SALE (San Antonio Livestock Exposition) moves forward, then SALE must be prepared to do so as well,โ Wolff said in the letter. The county judge did acknowledge that the current lease SALE has with Bexar County gives it the right to hold the rodeo as long as Gov. โThe precautionary measures we are implementing during the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo not only adheres to, but also exceeds current local and state health guidelines.โThe Stock Show & Rodeo is scheduled for Feb. 11 to 28, with the official rodeo kick-off on Friday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m.
Bexar County Commissioners consider COVID-19 testing for SA Stock Show and Rodeo
SAN ANTONIO โ Bexar County commissioners are considering paying to test San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo attendees for COVID-19, but rodeo organizers arenโt interested. Precinct 4 Commissioner Tommy Calvert raised the idea of testing rodeo attendees with the county footing the bill during Tuesdayโs Bexar County Commissioners Court meeting. The commissioners are next scheduled to meet on Feb. 9 -- two days before the start of the rodeo. However, Sides said rapid testing for entry was โnot only financially but logistically a challenge for us. The Rodeo is a County event in a County facility, so operational decisions are up to the County.โ
Comal ISD studentโs artwork wins her $4,000 scholarship, will be shown at San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo
The โCowboyโ painting by Smithson Valley High School sophomore Reagan Bolt earned a spot in the top 17 entries in the 2021 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Western Art Contest. SAN ANTONIO โ A Smithson Valley High School student was selected as a winner of a $4,000 scholarship after she entered an original artwork for the 2021 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Western Art Contest. The at large win earned her the scholarship, the press release said. Comal ISD said as one of the top 17 paintings, Boltโs piece is currently on exhibit at the Briscoe Western Art Museum in San Antonio throughout the month of January and will then be moved to the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo grounds to be shown during the event, Feb. 11-28. The subject matter for the artwork was western art, representing the heritage, lifestyle and landscapes of the American West, both historical or in present day.

San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo announces plans for 2021
SAN ANTONIO โ The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo has announced that it will take place in 2021 despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, a press release said Thursday. The rodeo will take place Feb. 11-28 at the Freeman Coliseum. The rodeo was previously held at the coliseum from 1950 to 2003 when the SBC Center (now AT&T Center) was built. A press release said they will continue to host exhibitors from throughout the state to compete in agriculture events and will continue to try to educate the youth of Texas. The carnival is also returning for patrons to enjoy, the press release said.
Thousands sign petition to cancel the Houston Rodeo amid growing coronavirus concerns
HOUSTON โ A few thousand people have signed an online petition calling for the cancellation of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo amid the coronavirus outbreak. Dubbed as the largest rodeo in the world, Houston Rodeo attracts millions of people to NRG Park. However, attendance is down compared to previous years, according to the Houston Rodeo data. Despite rising concerns of the coronavirus, Houston Rodeo and local officials said there are no such plans to cancel the festival at this time. โWe are continuing to monitor the situation and collaborate daily with Harris County and City of Houston officials, and the Houston Health Department.โ

HOUSTON โ This yearโs Rodeo Uncorked Champion Wine Auction was on Sunday, and the winning wine sold for $220,000. Buyers gathered at the annual auction to spend some money and sample some wine. The grand champion best in show wine, a Franceโs Piper-Heidsieck Brut, Champagne, NV sold for $220,000 to buyers Katherine Cornell and Tom Pirtle, Kristina and Paul Somerville, Jennifer and Joe Van Matre and Sheridan and John Eddie Williams. The reserve grand champion best in show wine sold for $215,000. Lisa Blackwood, Abbot Downing, Randa and Ray Gilliam and The Murski Family Foundation bought the wine.
