Driver who tried to run Somerset police officer off the road had 17 bags of heroin in his truck, affidavit states
The officer contacted the Bexar County Sheriffโs Office and followed Rosasโ truck as it turned on Somerset Road and drove in circles in the city. Rosas eventually stopped the truck along a street, exited the truck and began shouting at the officer, the affidavit said. AdThe suspect said โ**** you and **** thisโ before getting back into the truck and driving off toward the intersection of Loop 1604 and Somerset Road, the affidavit states. In Rosasโ vehicle, officers found 17 bags of heroin, totaling 22.36 grams, inside a Jack Links beef jerky container. They also found a glass pipe and a dash camera inside Rosasโ truck.
Country Hall of Famer, actor Kris Kristofferson has retired

First full moon of 2021 will arrive next week

The moon is also called the โIce Moon,โ as itโs known as the first full moon of winter. Koy Detmer, son of late great Sonny Detmer, hired as Somersetโs head football coach
SOMERSET โ The Detmer legacy continues at Somerset High School. On Monday evening, the Somerset School District Board of Trustees met to name Koy Detmer as the new head football coach. Koy is the son of longtime high school football coaching legend Sonny Detmer, who passed away last September. Koy played quarterback for his father at Mission High School and served as head coach of the Eagles for the past five seasons. He played eight seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and had a brief stint with the Minnesota Vikings.

6 San Antonio school districts receive donations totaling $500,000 from Toyota
SAN ANTONIO โ Six San Antonio-area school districts facing a digital divide were given donations totaling $500,000 to help students with e-learning. Somerset ISD received the largest chunk of the donation โ $300,000 โ and the rest was dispersed to Southside, East Central, Harlandale, South San and Southwest ISDs. The districts surround the Toyota manufacturing plant south of San Antonio. Nonprofit conducting mass testing for COVID-19 at Somerset ISD
SOMERSET, Texas โ A new nonprofit is conducting mass testing for COVID-19 at the Somerset Independent School District to get students back into the classroom safely. Somerset ISD received the testing service for free as part of the nonprofitโs pilot program. Last week, more than 200 Somerset High School students and staff members were tested for COVID-19. Somerset ISD Superintendent Saul Hinojosa said testing is only mandatory for students participating in extracurricular activities and are required to travel outside of the school. โItโs only mandatory for any students who participate in extracurricular activities being that they travel.โHinojosa said around 1,600 of the 4,100 students enrolled at Somerset ISD are back in classrooms for in-person learning.

SAN ANTONIO โ Legendary San Antonio-area and Somerset head football coach Sonny Detmer has died. Detmer is one of the stateโs all-time winningest head football coaches. Detmerโs sons, Ty and Koy, played quarterback for their father and went on to successful collegiate and NFL careers after prolific high school careers. Ty Detmer won the Heisman Trophy while at BYU and Koy Detmer was the starting quarterback for Colorado. Detmerโs grandsons also played quarterback for him at Somerset.

Officials ID 23-year-old driver ejected, killed in rollover crash on I-35
SAN ANTONIO A 23-year-old driver who died Monday night in a rollover crash on Interstate 35 in Southwest Bexar County has been identified. Jacob Ramos Hernandez, of Somerset, was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck, which happened just after 11 p.m. Monday on the southbound lanes of I-35 at Luckey Road. According to deputies, Hernandez was traveling southbound on the highway in a four-door sedan and struck a small sport utility vehicle from behind. Deputies said the sedan veered off into the center median, went airborne, and Hernandez was ejected from the sedan onto the main lanes of the highway. Deputies said several other vehicles were involved in the crash, however, there werent any other injuries.
Driver arrested after chase from San Antonio to Somerset
SAN ANTONIO โ A 37-year-old man who allegedly tried to get away from San Antonio police by leading them on a 15 mile chase has ended up in jail anyway. Police caught up with that driver around 2 a.m. Thursday on Kenny Avenue in Somerset. The suspect, instead, rammed the officerโs patrol car and sped away, dragging the officer for a short distance. The chase came to an end when the suspect reached the end of the dead end road. Police say he got out of his car and tried to run away, but officers captured him.
SAPD: Driver hits patrol car, clips officer with door while fleeing from him
SAN ANTONIO A 37-year-old man is facing multiple charges, including aggravated assault on a peace officer, after allegedly ramming a patrol car and leading police on a lengthy chase early Thursday morning. Driver arrested after chase from San Antonio to SomersetAccording to a preliminary police report, the San Antonio police officer also was clipped by the suspects car door as he sped away from a Southwest Side neighborhood. Police at the scene said the officer noticed the man and a woman sitting in a car in the 100 block of Rustleaf Street before 2 a.m. At that point, the suspect back up his car, ramming the officers patrol car and clipping the officer with his car door as he sped off. The report said she was suffering from pain in her chest, while an officer at the scene said she injured her back.
Somerset standout, Hunter Hernandez, commits to play football for TLU
SOMERSET On Wednesday, Somerset graduate, Hunter Hernandez, signed his National Letter of Intent to pay football for TLU. His senior year, the running back rushed for over 1800 yards and 11 touchdowns. Hernandez played in the San Antonio All-American Bowl, where he had seven carries for 107 yards and a score.
BCSO: Suspect identified in Somerset shooting, charged with murder
SAN ANTONIO โ Update:The Bexar County Sheriffโs Office has identified the suspect and the victim involved in a deadly shooting that happened Friday morning in Somerset. Maria Delrosario Mendez, 52, was arrested by BCSO homicide investigators for murder, a first-degree felony, according to authorities. Soldier surprises mother, sister at Somerset High School
SOMERSET, Texas โ Army Spc. Oscar Ortegon surprised his mom and younger sister Wednesday at Somerset High School. Ortegon graduated from the school in 2018. He has been in South Korea for the past 13 months. Ortegon said he canโt wait to eat one of his momโs home-cooked meals.
Groundbreaking for new plaza brings hopes of economic boost to sleepy Bexar County town
SOMERSET, TX โ A new development is the talk of the town in Somerset. Veterinarian Tracy Green, owner of Somerset Animal Clinic, is taking a leap of faith by expanding her clinic. The plans are welcomed by the town of about 1,600 people, which hasnโt seen a lot of economic or population growth like other towns in Bexar County. Green hopes other business-minded people in her town and surrounding areas will help bring growth to her sleepy town. โWeโre starting to be on the map.โThe first phase of construction will be the clinic, and the first plaza building will follow later in summer 2020.
