SAN ANTONIO – The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission is working to keep alcohol away from underage people this spring break by having undercover agents visit liquor stores, bars and other locations where alcohol is sold to ensure laws are followed. With the statewide coronavirus restrictions lifted, agents with TABC will be busy this spring break. AdPorter said that, in years past, the agents conducted anywhere between 1,000 and 1,500 inspections statewide during spring break. “Of those, we generally see about a 95% to 98% compliance rate statewide, including at places like liquor stores and convenience stores,” Porter said. The agency said businesses that sell alcohol to people younger than 21 could face a civil fine or suspension of their license to sell alcohol.

SAN ANTONIO – The Animal Defense League and San Antonio Humane Society are offering adoption specials for “big mutts” this spring break. ADL spokesperson Michelle Thorson said pets over 40 pounds will have their adoption fees waived through March 14. Instead, the animal shelter is asking for a monetary donation to help support the program and pets in need. At the San Antonio Humane Society, the “I Like Big Mutts and I Cannot Lie” special is offering a $25 adoption fee for large dogs that are at least 1 year old. SAN ANTONIO – Spring break is in full swing for several San Antonio-area schools and some families have traveled. But, with this in mind, health officials have some guidelines on how to return from spring break safely to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. The safest way to spend spring break is to enjoy time with the people in your household, according to the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District. Get tested for the coronavirus 3-5 days after travel, and self-quarantine for a full seven days after travel. If you opt not to get tested, health officials urge you to stay home and self-quarantine for 10 days after travel.

SAN ANTONIO – Aquatica San Antonio at SeaWorld will reopen just in time for spring break. Waterpark officials said it will be open from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. starting Saturday through Sunday, March 14. After spring break it will be open on weekends through June 4, then it will be open daily. “Starting this Spring Break, we are thrilled to welcome guests back to Aquatica and provide families a much-needed opportunity to get outdoors and enjoy quality time together, while doing so safely,” Byron Surrett, park president of SeaWorld and Aquatica, said in a news release. BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M University students will have a shorter spring break than usual in 2021, according to university officials. The spring break changes were announced via email to students and staff Thursday as the university reached its midpoint of the fall semester. “I want to thank and congratulate our staff, students, and faculty for their outstanding work in this very unusual year,” Fierke said in a statement. SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word has suspended a faculty-led study abroad trip to Italy in light of a coronavirus outbreak in that country, and school officials are urging others to consider the CDC’s travel warnings before making plans to travel internationally. UIW officials also sent a message to student and faculty about international travel plans during Spring Break. They were also encouraged to “evaluate non-essential travel throughout the Asia region during the Spring semester.”Students from China were asked to contact the Office of International Services to advise of international travel plans in advance. The residence and dining halls will be open and fully operational during Spring Break for students staying on or near campus.
