(AP Photo/Manu Fernandez)MADRID – Spain’s Madrid region halted COVID-19 vaccinations Thursday at health centers for four days so medical staff can rest over the Easter holiday, despite pleas from the national government not to halt the fight against surging infections. Health Minister Carolina Darias last week urged regional authorities to keep vaccinating over the Easter break, saying it was “very important” to keep up the inoculation program. Spain, like other European Union nations, has had a surprisingly slow vaccine rollout that authorities blame on vaccine shortages. AdIt also noted that vaccine shots will still be administered at a city hospital and a city soccer stadium over the traditional Easter break.

Traditional Easter weekend camping at SA parks prohibited again this year due to COVID-19, mayor says
SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg has announced that traditional camping over Easter weekend will not be allowed for the second year in a row due to the coronavirus pandemic. Nirenberg said that while parks will be open to visitors during the daytime, they will not be open for overnight camping. “We do not have the resources to properly enforce public health protocols for overnight camping during Easter.”He did encourage locals to visit parks and “get outside and enjoy some recreation.”Last year, the parks were almost entirely closed to the public for Easter weekend as COVID-19 began to spread in the community. If people do plan on celebrating Easter with people outside their household, the CDC says to gather outdoors and at least six feet apart from others. Earlier in the briefing, Nirenberg announced an increase of 159 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total case count to 205,258 since the pandemic began.

SAN ANTONIO – While chicks, ducklings and baby rabbits could make your Easter celebration cuter, it is illegal to buy, sell or dye them in San Antonio. Animal Care Services is reminding locals that the sale of baby animals as holiday novelties is illegal in San Antonio. “It is illegal for any person to sell or offer for sale, barter, lease, rent or give away baby chicks or ducklings or rabbits less than 8 weeks old as pets or novelties,” the city’s animal laws state. It’s also against the law to dye or stain baby chicks, ducklings or rabbits, or even have animals that have been colored, according to ACS.
