Still dealing with dead plants after Texas winter storm? Rooted Right Plants, a Johnson City-based garden business, shared a "gardening public service announcement" last week to save dead or damaged agave plants. Owner Robbin Voight described an uphill battle in trying to resurrect a damaged agave plant that will require pruning protection. Rooted Right Plants also encourages green thumb groups to wear eye protection when hacking away the dead leaves. Voight said the process of pruning away the decay will leave agave plants looking like "ugly pineapples for a long, long time."

Unlikely alliance fighting pipeline in Texas Hill Country
Unlike the Dakota Access Pipeline project that sparked massive protests in 2016 and 2017 over fears it would hurt the environment and sacred Native American sites, opposition to the Texas pipeline has largely played out of public view. "That's the purpose of this project, to capture that natural gas and ship it to market," Fore said. Texas already has the most expansive pipeline network in the country with more than 460,000 miles (740,250 kilometers) of channels zigzagging through it. Those strange bedfellows have held townhalls, formed grassroots community campaigns, and lodged lawsuits against Kinder Morgan. "No one has fought (Kinder Morgan) harder and no one has fought them longer than we have in the Hill Country," he said.

Company Changes Plan to Build Oil Pipeline Over Edwards Aquifer Recharge Zone After Pushback From Residents

The conduit connecting North Texas to the Eagle Ford Shale region south of San Antonio is scheduled to begin service in the first half of 2021.The change comes after Hill Country landowners raised concerns about the line crossing the environmentally sensitive recharge zone. The Edwards Aquifer provides drinking water for roughly 2 million people in the San Antonio area. "We actually were considering a number of options, which is pretty typical for a pipeline project like this," company spokesman Rick Rainey told theEnterprise officials met with landowners earlier this week and opted for a different route based on their input, Rainey added.They listened, and it was a constructive conversation, rancher Ken Halliday told the Rivard Report . They said they wanted to do the right thing and they let us know theyre moving the pipeline so it will not cross over the aquifer recharge zone.The original pipeline would run through Upton, Reagan, Crockett, Schleicher, Sutton, Edwards, Real, Kerr, Bandera, Uvalde, Medina, Frio and Atascosa counties, according to a story in theciting an Enterprise presentation.

Plans to build a controversial proposed crude oil pipeline over the Edwards Aquifer recharge zone have been canceled, Texas Hill Country landowners and a Houston pipeline company told the Rivard Report on Thursday. Rick Rainey, vice president of public relations for Houston-based Enterprise Product Partners, confirmed the pipeline would not cross over the aquifer recharge zone. The Rivard Report first reported on the proposed pipeline route after landowners brought the issue to light. Hords ranch has been in his wife Jennis family for four generations, which made protecting the land and the aquifer recharge zone all the more important, he said. There are more than 156,000 acres protected in the Edwards Aquifer recharge zone and the contributing zone where water feeds into the recharge zone, Parks and Recreation Interim Director Homer Garcia III explained.

Hill Country couple shares video of giant redheaded centipede outside bedroom
LAKEHILLS, Texas - A couple in the Hill Country got a frightening, unwanted visit from one of the creepiest creatures in Texas after heavy rain hit the area this past weekend. Lisa Lopez and Ryan Koenig were greeted Sunday morning by a giant Texas redheaded centipede outside their bedroom window. Despite its appearance, a bite from a giant redheaded centipede is usually rather mild. According to the department, the Texas redheaded centipedes are usually found under logs, rocks or leaf litter. The centipedes are also commonly seen in the Texas Hill Country.
