SAN ANTONIO โ Itโs a case of short-term pain for long-term gain as a flood control project in one San Antonio neighborhood is causing some traffic detours. McCullough Avenue is closed between Oblate Drive and Shannon Lee Street for the next few months. Crews started work on phase two of the Barbara Drive drainage project on Jan. 4. The work is more intensive than the first phase, which means that stretch of McCullough Avenue has to close. The $8 million project is being paid for with proceeds from the 2017 bond program approved by voters.
Full closure of SH 151 planned for this weekend in West San Antonio
SAN ANTONIO โ Drivers โ you may need to adjust your route this weekend. The Texas Department of Transportation will close parts of SH 151 in west San Antonio, beginning at 9 p.m., Friday, Oct. 16 until 5 a.m., Monday, Oct. 19. The closure will include SH 151 main lanes just west of I-410 to just east of I-410 and a full closure of SH 151 eastbound to westbound turnaround, according to TxDOT. Officials said the closures will allow for the continued construction of the flyover ramps and installation of steel beams in the area. The eastbound SH 151 flyover ramp to northbound I-410 will stay open to traffic during the road closures.
Universal City looks for ways to revitalize area outside Randolph Air Force Base
Universal City โ Landlocked Universal City is taking a different approach to attract more revenue, retail and residents. City staff recently informally presented the Aviation District Master Plan to City Council and the community to reveal what their study for the area showed. The city is proposing a revitalization of Pat Booker Road just outside Randolph Airforce Base, between Aviation and National Boulevards. The area is considered to have the oldest homes in the city, and a lower economic base, with a mix of Hispanic and Caucasian residents. โThereโs a lot in the air and we donโt know exactly what itโs going to look like," Voeller said.
Major closures on Loop 410 planned for this weekend in West San Antonio
SAN ANTONIO โ Attention drivers โ you may need to adjust your routes this weekend. The Texas Department of Transportation has announced major closures on I-410 in West San Antonio to install steel beams and continue construction on flyover ramps. Drivers that are traveling southbound on Loop 410 will be detoured to the frontage roads before Military Drive. Then, drivers can re-enter the main lanes after the Marbach Road intersection, according to TxDOT. Officials say drivers traveling eastbound will be detoured to the peripheral streets.
The first mass timber mid-rise building in Texas is now complete
SAN ANTONIO โ As San Antonio continues to grow you might have noticed a new building on Broadway just north of downtown that looks like itโs made of glass and wood. Itโs called The Soto and it is one of the most technologically and ecologically high-end buildings in San Antonio. โItโs Good for the environment, not only in San Antonio but the whole world,โ John S. Beauchamp of Hixon Properties said. โWhen youโre building out of mass timber youโre building out of young farm grown trees, taking carbon dioxide out of the air which is then being stored in the building -- our building actually has a negative carbon footprint,โBeauchamp said. The Timber building is revolutionary for both the city of San Antonio and for the state and will be a boon for the whole Broadway corridor.
San Antonioโs historic City Hall building renovations are nearing the homestretch, but not without delays
SAN ANTONIO โ San Antonio city staff and the city council are expected to move into a renovated historic City Hall building by December 2020. The city council approved a budget of $38 million for the project. โWeโre going to spend another $950,000 in upgrading the security to the building to make it safe for everybody,โ Sanchez said. โThereโs gonna be a grand staircase from the second floor going way to the fourth floor,โ Sanchez said. Roadwork could affect traffic at The Rim for a month
Visitors at The Rim may find a bigger traffic snarl than usual over the next month. Texas construction worker buried alive, dies after trench collapse
GREGORY, Texas โ One construction worker is dead and two others are injured following a trench collapse around noon on Tuesday at a construction site in Gregory. Workers were digging using a backhoe when the collapse occurred, burying a 36-year-old man alive, according to KRIS. A second man was partially buried by the collapse and a third man was injured after jumping in to rescue the two workers that were trapped.
