Emergency fund established to help San Antonians affected by winter storm

SAN ANTONIO – An emergency fund was set up Monday to help San Antonio residents recover from last week’s devastating winter storm. “Our research indicates the greatest needs right now are food, water and shelter,” Hartman said. A companion relief effort, SAWS’ Community Pipe Repair Fund, has been established to help pay for urgently-needed plumbing repairs, said San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg. AdThe fund will provide help for San Antonio Water System residential customers in Bexar County who suffered water pipe damage in their homes due to the storm, Nirenberg said. “The program will prioritize emergency pipe repair that risks causing harm to life, health or safety of the occupants,” Nirenberg said.

Morgans Wonderland founder, executive donate plasma at South Texas Blood & Tissue Center after recovering from COVID-19

SAN ANTONIO The South Texas Blood & Tissue Center announced today that the founder of Morgans Wonderland and a park executive donated plasma on Wednesday to help the San Antonio community combat COVID-19. The center is the only organization in the area collecting convalescent plasma that can be transfused directly to patients with COVID-19. The community blood center has supplied more than 6,000 convalescent plasma doses to patients in area hospitals to date. The average convalescent plasma donation provides enough for three doses, and a donor can give every four days. To help the community feel included at home, Morgans Wonderland hosts a free program -- Memory Matters Meet-up -- twice a month for people who have been diagnosed with Alzheimers disease-related dementias and their caregivers. Individuals with Alzheimers disease-related dementias engage in socialization activities online, as well as presentations and information provided for caregivers, said Morgans Wonderland edutainment director Nikki Young. We want to provide that support service.Caregivers and those who are dealing with Alzheimers disease-related dementias will engage in a series of educational sessions presented by the Alzheimers Association. How to send joy to those you love

SAN ANTONIO A local nonprofit amusement park may be closed for the rest of the year due to COVID-19, but that doesnt mean it cant deliver joy. Morgans Wonderland is bringing the happy to the front doors of people in San Antonio who need a lift during this pandemic through the Delivering Joy program. Delivering Joy is one of our new programs and we are really excited about it, Kearney said. One of our favorite things is when people come to the park is the joy we see in our guests faces, and one of the biggest things is when they get to meet Joy, our butterfly mascot, we wanted to bring Joy to you.To nominate someone for a Joy the Butterfly visit, click here. Each Delivering Joy visit will be unique to the level of joy needed by each individual, said Nikki Young, the parks director of entertainment.

Morgans Wonderland will remain closed through 2020 due to coronavirus pandemic

SAN ANTONIO Morgans Wonderland, the San Antonio theme park designed to bring together people with and without special needs, will remain closed through 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, officials announced Thursday. Arriving at this conclusion has been truly heart-wrenching, said Gordon Hartman, founder of The Gordon Hartman Family Foundation that helped create the park. The Morgans Wonderland sports complex is being considered for limited use with final details coming soon, according to the news release. This past year, TripAdvisor inducted Morgans Wonderland into its Certificate of Excellence Hall of Fame.
