Although COVID-19 sidelined Southern Methodist University, leading to the cancellation of the Tropical Smoothie Cafe Frisco Bowl, UTSA will still get to appear in a bowl game. The Roadrunners were supposed to play the Mustangs at Toyota Stadium in Frisco on Dec. 19, marking UTSAโ€™s second bowl game in its 10-year history. SMU pulled out of the bowl, however, because contact tracing revealed COVID-19 exposure concerns among its football team. Now, UTSA accepted a bid in the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl, scheduled for Dec. 26 at 3:30 p.m. in Dallas, Texas. The Roadrunners last appeared in a bowl game in 2016, when they lost to the New Mexico Lobos 23-20.

Harris accounted for 373 of the Roadrunners' 498 yards of offense, His 23-yard quarterback draw gave UTSA (2-0) a 14-point lead with just over seven minutes to play. The lead was cut to 10 only seconds later when Trae Self hit Xavier Gibson with a 10-yard TD pass. Harris had 104 yards rushing on 17 carries and a career-high 269 in the air on 23-of-36 passing with an interception. Sincere McCormick added 98 yards rushing.

UTSA to miss out on $1.4 million payday

SAN ANTONIO UTSA football was scheduled to open the 2020 college football season at defending national champion LSU, but that game is now off. Today, the Southeastern Conference moved to a 10-game conference-only football schedule due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Roadrunners, who play in Conference USA, were slated to make $1.4 million for opening the season at LSU on Sept. 5 in Baton Rouge, La. Losing that kind of money is a tough blow for UTSA and the entire athletic program. UTSA Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Lisa Campos released a statement addressing the scheduling changes on Thursday evening, Earlier today, we became aware of the SECs decision to implement a conference-only football schedule for its member schools this season.

WACO, Texas โ€“ Dalton Sturm threw for 155 yards with two touchdowns and ran for 98 more yards as UTSA got its first-ever win over a Power Five team, 17-10 Saturday night over a Baylor team that has lost its first two games under new coach Matt Rhule. Both of Baylor's losses under Rhule have been against first-time opponents that had never before beaten a Power Five team. A win at Baylor is a huge boost for Year 2. Baylor: The Bears had 137 yards passing and 137 yards rushing. Baylor: The Bears go to ACC team Duke next Saturday for their first nonconference game against a Power Five team since 2009.

UTSA set for primetime against Arizona at Alamodome

SAN ANTONIO โ€“ The UTSA Roadrunners will look for another signature win Thursday night when they take on the Arizona Wildcats in the program's first nationally televised primetime game at the Alamodome. It's been a remarkable rise for UTSA, which has only had a football program since 2011. UTSA lost to Arizona last season in Tucson 38-13, but the Wildcats know this will be a tough early season test. Arizona enters Thursday night's game after a blowout 58-13 win over UNLV in their opener.
