Texas sues Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin over changes to 2020 election laws
AUSTIN, Texas โ Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit in the U.S. Supreme Court Tuesday against four battleground states that President-elect Joe Biden won for what he claims are unconstitutional changes to 2020 election laws. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel called the suit a publicity stunt and said โMr. Paxtonโs actions are beneath the dignity of the office of Attorney General and the people of the great state of Texas,โ the Tribune reported. โTheir failure to abide by the rule of law casts a dark shadow of doubt over the outcome of the entire election. The filing also claims that, whether lawful or unlawful, there were intrastate differences in the treatment of voters.
Barr: No evidence of fraud thatโd change election outcome
WASHINGTON (AP) โ Attorney General William Barr said Tuesday the Justice Department has not uncovered evidence of widespread voter fraud that would change the outcome of the 2020 presidential election. In an interview with The Associated Press, Barr said U.S. attorneys and FBI agents have been working to follow up specific complaints and information theyโve received, but theyโve uncovered no evidence that would change the outcome of the election. โTo date, we have not seen fraud on a scale that could have affected a different outcome in the election,โ Barr told the AP. The comments are especially direct coming from Barr, who has been one of the presidentโs most ardent allies. โMost claims of fraud are very particularized to a particular set of circumstances or actors or conduct.
See how your neighborhood voted in the 2020 presidential election
SAN ANTONIO โ With all the votes tallied in the 2020 presidential election, a clearer picture has emerged of how candidates Joe Biden and Donald Trump did among voters in various parts of Bexar County. In a year of record-breaking turnout, Bexar County voters favored Biden, who won 58% of the vote with 448,452 votes cast for him. Trump won 40% of the vote in Bexar County, with 308,618 votes cast for him. Voters were counted in the precinct where they live regardless of where they voted, according to election officials.
Texas Republicans eye 2022 โ and beyond โ after romping in November election
Cruz 2024!โIt was a small reminder that, as all-consuming the 2020 election was for Texas Republicans, many eyes had already begun to shift beyond it. Every statewide elected official is up for reelection in 2022 โ a ticket led by Gov. After 2022, Abbott said in a recent radio interview, โweโll see what happens.โCruz appears a more likely bet for the next presidential race. He is up for reelection in 2022 and then can run for president two years later. And in 2022, he will be running in a non-presidential election year that is expected to favor Republicans.
Charts show how Bexar Countyโs 2020 voting turnout compared to previous elections
Bexar County had its widest margin between two presidential candidates ever โ 139,834 votes โ with now-President-elect Joe Biden and now-Vice President-elect Kamala Harris prevailing, according to recently finalized data with the Bexar County Elections Department. The numbers are based on votes for the president and vice president in the General Election for Bexar County, going back to 1992. The margin of victory for Democrats increased by 76% from 2016, when presidential candidate Hillary Clinton also easily took Bexar County. At that time, the 2016 General Election had the widest margin of victory between Democratic and Republican presidential candidates in Bexar County. An additional 3,700 people in Bexar County voted for down-ballot measures or candidates that did not include the president or vice president.
Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrickโs $1 million reward for voter fraud info ridiculed by Pennsylvania counterpart
Dan Patrickโs quest to substantiate unproven claims of widespread voter fraud has already garnered a solid tip from his counterpart in Pennsylvania. On Tuesday, Patrick announced he will pay people up to $1 million for information on voter fraud that results in an arrest and conviction. โI got a dude in Forty Fort, PA who tried to have his dead mom vote for Trump,โ Fetterman tweeted Tuesday evening. Iโd like to collect your handsome reward for reporting voter fraud. โPresident Trumpโs pursuit of voter fraud is not only essential to determine the outcome of this election, it is essential to maintain our democracy and restore faith in future elections.โ
Georgia audit to trigger hand recount of presidential vote
ATLANTA (AP) โ Georgiaโs secretary of state on Wednesday announced an audit of presidential election results that he said will trigger a full hand recount. It is up to Raffensperger to choose which race to audit. Raffensperger chose to audit the presidential race and said the tight margin means that the audit will result in a full hand recount. After results from the hand recount are certified, the losing campaign can then request another recount, which will be performed by scanners that would read and tally the votes, Raffensperger said. In addition to the audit of the presidential race, Raffensperger announced that heโs consolidating runoff elections.
Democrats didnโt get a blue wave, but some of the fastest-growing suburbs in Texas are still moving to the left
Although they didnโt get the blue wave they expected, Democrats narrowed the gap with Republicans in five of the most competitive and populous suburban counties in Texas. Meanwhile, Democrats won over many voters like 28-year-old Rachel Copeland, who said she voted for Libertarian Gary Johnson in 2016. Not all suburban counties became as competitive as Tarrant. โI think we need to rethink how we talk about the blue wave,โ said Brandon Rottinghaus, political science professor at the University of Houston. It's going to affect some places more than others.โBut after those predictions of a blue wave failed to materialize this year, Cross said, Democrats will need to temper their expectations.
Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick offers $1 million reward for reports of voter fraud

According to a news release, anyone who provides information to law enforcement that leads to an arrest and conviction of voter fraud will be paid a minimum of $25,000. The money will come from Patrickโs campaign fund, according to spokesperson Sherry Sylvester, the Texas Tribune reported. โI support President Trumpโs efforts to identify voter fraud in the presidential election and his commitment to making sure that every legal vote is counted and every illegal vote is disqualified,โ Patrick said. WATCH: President-elect Joe Biden gives speech on Affordable Care Act as SCOTUS hears arguments
President-elect Joe Biden is fighting to defend the Obama administrationโs signature health care law. He is scheduled to deliver a speech on the Affordable Care Act at 1 p.m. Tuesday, the same day the Supreme Court hears arguments on its merits. If the 6-3 conservative court agrees with the GOP, millions of Americans could lose their health care coverage. Biden's speech reflects his steady focus on health care as he prepares to take office on Jan. 20 during the worst health crisis in more than a century. The suit challenging the health care law was brought in Americaโs largest conservative state, Texas, and is backed by Trump and top Republicans.
Joe Biden can quickly reverse many of Donald Trumpโs immigration policies, experts say. Others will be more complicated.
โWe will, day-in and day-out, hold the Biden administration accountable to its promises to immigrants, refugees, DREAMers, and the American people,โ she wrote. With the election decided โ although Trump has not conceded and his campaign has filed lawsuits in multiple states to contest the results โ how quickly a Biden administration can begin to reverse course on Trumpโs immigration policies depends on several factors. Wood said he expected a Biden administration to take a more traditional approach with Mexico that includes dialogue and offers of U.S. aid. โItโs going to be very difficult for a Biden administration to relax or to end the cooperation with Mexico on stopping the flow of Central Americans northward,โ he said. But itโs unclear what would become of the funds that were transferred but havenโt been used, said Jessica Bolter, a Migration Policy Institute policy analyst.
GOP backs Trump as he fights election results, transition
In fact, election officials from both political parties have publicly stated that voting went well and international observers also confirmed that there were no serious irregularities. And the White House moved to crack down on those not deemed sufficiently loyal as Trump continued to refuse to concede the race. White House officials and Trump political appointees informed career government staffers they were not to begin acting on transition planning until GSA approved it, according to officials familiar with the matter. A handful of battleground races in Texas remain unsettled days after Election Day
In Texas, Monday is the last day for counties to receive overseas and military mail-in ballots. Valenzuela and Van Duyne were competing to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Kenny Marchant, R-Coppell, in what national Democrats saw as one of their best pickup opportunities in Texas. 1 finisher, Van Duyne, has called on the current runner-up to accept defeat. Neither Decision Desk HQ, which is powering The Texas Tribune's results, nor the Associated Press have called the race for Van Duyne. "Once again, I will repeat, Beth Van Duyne will be the Congresswoman for Texasโ 24th District," Van Duyne's campaign manager, Donald Rickard, said in a statement Thursday.
Pandemic stress and anxiety can lead to overeating, study says
To say 2020 has been stressful would be an understatement โ and this election cycle isnโt making anything easier. There is a lot of collective anxiety at this time, which can lend itself to more emotional eating, which makes perfect sense. But if youโre someone who stress eats, there are some ways to be smart about it. When it comes to sweets, if you enjoy ice cream, add fiber and berries or diced mango on top. Green tea in particular has less caffeine than coffee, tons of antioxidants and amino acids that can reduce stress and promote calm feelings.
Suggestions so you donโt lose friends over politics
Here are some tips on how not to lose your friends over politics. Seventy percent of social media users says itโs stressful and frustrating talking politics with people they donโt agree with. Nearly half of social media adult users feel worn out by political posts and discussions. Try to understand their point of view instead of trying to convince them of yours, and if all else fails, agree to disagree. Another tip: some people believe they are attacking the view someone has, but instead they are attacking the person.

Bexar County Elections Administrator Jacque Callanen said the free testing is a gesture of gratitude for the workers, who were exposed to thousands of voters throughout the election. The simplest way to explain the paths to president for Joe Biden, Donald Trump
While Former Vice President Joe Biden appears to be inching closer to securing the 270 electoral votes needed to become president, the race is still too close to call. Biden currently has a 253-214 lead in electoral votes and he is winning in four of the five major outstanding states - Pennsylvania, Georgia, Nevada and Arizona. On Friday morning, Biden took the lead over President Donald Trump in the battleground states of Pennsylvania (20 votes) and Georgia (16 votes). If Biden wins Pennsylvania, where his lead over Trump is growing, he wins the presidency, pending any litigation or recounts. If that state went to Trump, Biden would only need to win in two of the remaining four states.
Election officials in Clark County, Nevada to provide update
WASHINGTON (AP) โ Clark County Registrar Joe Gloria is expected to give an update on election results in the Las Vegas metropolitan area. Clark County has two-thirds of Nevadaโs population. Thatโs after election officials in Nevada released updated returns on Thursday, including a batch of 14,285 and 12,189 ballots, respectively, in the stateโs two largest counties, Clark and Washoe. Clark County said Thursday it did not expect to complete counting the bulk of its mail votes until this weekend. Among the ballots still left to be processed in Nevada this year are provisional ballots, including 60,000 in Clark County, where most of the stateโs voters live.

4 big takeaways for Texas, Bexar County after 2020 election
SAN ANTONIO โ While the top of the ticket is still being ironed out (and might be for a while longer), the dust has mostly settled around San Antonio and Texas following Tuesdayโs general election. All told, Texas Democrats picked up zero seats in the U.S. House and Senate after hoping they could get close to 10. Bexar County is a blue dot in a sea of redAs was the case in most of the country, metro areas like San Antonio (Bexar County) bled blue while the less-populated rural areas were decidedly Trump supporters. To make matters worse yet for Texas Democrats, the counties surrounding Bexar County grew darker red in 2020 from their hue in 2016. Bexar County voters made historic choices for womenDemocrat Kathryn Brown became the first Black woman ever elected as a Bexar County Constable on Tuesday and, for the first time ever, the Bexar County Commissioners Court will include two female commissioners alongside two male colleagues (the county judge, Nelson Wolff, also has a seat on the court).

Mail-in ballots received today at Bexar County Elections Department will count, official says
The election isnโt over just yet in Bexar County. Although the races have been called, mail ballots continue to be delivered to the Bexar County Elections Department, Administrator Jacque Callanen said in a press conference on Wednesday. The additional mail-in ballots will not change the outcome of any of the Bexar County races because no race has a margin of victory smaller than the number of ballots that are expected. However, the additional ballots will add to more than 760,000 votes cast in Bexar County throughout the presidential election, a record-breaking number. โWeโre really proud of Bexar County,โ Callanen said.

Election officials arrive for work at the Maricopa County Recorder's Office, Thursday, Nov. 5, 2020, in Phoenix. The Associated Press has called the race in Arizona for Democrat Joe Biden. โThe Associated Press continues to watch and analyze vote count results from Arizona as they come in,โ said Sally Buzbee, APโs executive editor. Many of the gains have been driven by the shifting politics of Maricopa County, which is home to Phoenix and its suburbs. Maricopa County accounts for 60% of the stateโs vote.
2020 races that havenโt been called yet
By midnight, Biden had racked up 205 electoral votes to Trumpโs 171, according to the Associated Press. Congressional District 23UPDATE: Republican Tony Gonzales wins election to U.S. House in Texas' 23rd Congressional District, AP reports. Gonzales' lead, which ballooned to 14,000 votes before midnight, is a much healthier advantage than past races in the districtโs history, but it remained too close to call with only 78% of precincts reporting. โWith thousands of ballots yet to be counted, the Gonzales campaignโs attempt to declare victory is premature,โ Jones' campaign manager Lacey Morrison said. Flores stunned the Texas political landscape by winning the District 19 state senate seat.
Hereโs how Texans voted in the 2020 election by age, race and more, according to APโs VoteCast
RaceAccording to survey data, Trump was more popular amongst white voters, 65% of white voters supported Trump while 35% of white voters supported Biden. Biden connected with Black and Latino voters, survey data indicates that 89% of Black voters and 67% of Latino voters supported the Democratic nominee. AP VoteCast: Texas voters sour on state of nation
AUSTIN โ Voters in Texas made their pick for president while holding negative views about the countryโs direction, according to an expansive AP survey of the American electorate. AP VoteCast found that 41% of Texas voters said the U.S. is on the right track and 58% of voters said it is headed in the wrong direction. ON THE ISSUESThe coronavirus pandemic was top of mind for many voters in Texas. The survey of 3,734 voters in Texas was conducted for eight days, concluding as polls closed. The survey combines a random sample of registered voters drawn from the state voter file and self-identified registered voters selected from nonprobability online panels.
Election results 2020: Who is winning control of the Texas House?
While the top of the ballot has received the most attention, the balance of the Texas House of Representatives is also at stake. For the first time in years, Democrats have a chance to flip the 150-member Texas House, which has been controlled by Republicans for more than a decade. The stakes couldnโt be higher, since next legislative session will include redistricting, the once-in-a-decade process by which the Texas Legislature draws district maps for Congress and state legislative seats. To gain control of the House, Democrats would need to pick up nine seats. There are 18 to 22 state House races that Democrats are targeting.

Hereโs how votes are counted in Texas
There are more votes than ever to count in Texas this year: A record-breaking 9.7 million people cast ballots during Texasโ early voting period โ 8.7 million of those were cast in person, and nearly 1 million sent through the mail. By the time Election Day comes and goes, experts predict that the total Texas vote count could reach 12 million. Hereโs how the process works in Texas:Processing and counting mail-in ballotsCounty officials have already started reviewing mail-in ballots. Unlike many other states, Texas does not require a paper record of a personโs vote when using an electronic system. The Texas voting system is very decentralized, which means each of its 254 counties might handle the way it processes and counts its votes differently.
Rural Texans have long helped Republicans. Will that hold true on Tuesday?
โAnd the bigger rural Texas [votes] will determine the final margin he wins by โ is it 4? And the GOP dominance has not gone unanswered in rural Texas, where Democrats have made investments to at least cut down on their deficits there. โI grew up in rural Texas, and I know what rural Texas needs,โ said Hegar, who was raised in Williamson County โ north of Austin โ when it was less suburban than it is today. Rural Texas is hurting because of a lack of access to education and health care, two of the biggest employers in rural Texas. Republicans, meanwhile, say their rural voters are energized by Trumpโs follow-through on campaign promises to restrict abortion and appoint conservative judges.

SAN ANTONIO โ Early voting has ended in Bexar County and Election Day is just around the corner. As both Bexar County political parties gear up for Tuesday, Nov. 3, representatives from the Republican and Democratic parties joined Leading SA on Sunday to discuss the general election and the record early voting turnouts. Here in Bexar County, the Republican Party says it is looking toward the north side of town. As for the Democratic Party of Bexar County, they also are looking to the North Side. And we worked really hard to ensure that we registered voters within those areas,โ Monica Alcantara, Bexar County Democratic Party chair, said.
Latinos among the record turnouts during early voting
Henry Flores, a longtime political scientist and professor emeritus at St. Maryโs University, said data heโs seen indicates a large percentage of Latinos have been voting early. โI donโt think thereโs a lessening of support, but I donโt really see it increasing for President Trump,โ Flores said. โBecause he seems to be associated with all of that, Latinos are voting against him because of that,โ Flores said. But not Johnny Delgado, an electrician and business owner who is among โLatinos for Trump,โ who voted for him in 2016. Flores said thanks to more voter registration efforts nationally, many more Latino voters are choosing between the two candidates.
