Aquatica San Antonio opening to guests just in time for spring break

SAN ANTONIO – Aquatica San Antonio at SeaWorld will reopen just in time for spring break. Waterpark officials said it will be open from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. starting Saturday through Sunday, March 14. SeaWorld lawyers question SAWS about using parking lot as water distribution site

SAN ANTONIO – Lawyers for SeaWorld apparently had some concerns about the San Antonio Water System wanting to use its parking lot as a water distribution site for residents in desperate need of water. According to SAWS president and CEO Robert Puente, the lawyers had a lot of questions. The SeaWorld site was among seven water distribution sites at SAWS pump stations where the utility is giving away free water for customers who have no water or low water pressure due to the winter storm. The sites will be open until the water system is back to normal operating conditions. Two male penguins at SeaWorld San Antonio are raising a chick of a different penguin species together, park officials said. It isn't uncommon for penguins to foster an egg, but it is less common that it is a same-sex pair, said SeaWorld aviculturist Jason Medina. In the SeaWorld San Antonio habitat, penguins are tracked with identification numbers so keepers can monitor and watch for behavioral patterns. "Most new pairs tend to lose their eggs and it takes a few seasons before they successfully incubate an egg." A pair of penguins has to sit on the eggs to incubate the chick while also protecting it from predators and the cold.

SAN ANTONIO – We’re sure you’ve seen plenty of sonogram pictures before, but have you ever seen one of a beluga whale? New footage released by SeaWorld San Antonio shows one of the park’s beluga whales, Luna, and her baby to be. According to park officials, the staff at SeaWorld San Antonio conduct husbandry training with animals as part of conservation efforts. “Through this specialized training, beluga whales are taught to rest comfortably and hold still so they can be examined by our veterinarians,” SeaWorld San Antonio said in a statement. The gestational period for beluga whales is between 14 and 15 months.

Meet Rudolph, Santa Claus at SeaWorld San Antonio’s annual Christmas celebration

Get ready for some ho-ho-ho-liday fun at SeaWorld San Antonio. The park’s annual Christmas celebration is returning on select dates starting Nov. 20 and ending Jan. 3Visitors will have the chance to meet Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Santa Claus. The park will be open from 1 to 9 p.m. on Nov. 20 – 22, 25 – 29, Dec. 4 – 6, 11 – 13, 18 – 20, 23 -27 and Dec. 30 – Jan. 3. Visitors are required to make reservations to visit SeaWorld San Antonio and are encouraged to do so as early as possible. SAN ANTONIO – SeaWorld San Antonio has laid off 242 employees, according to documents the theme park submitted to the Texas Workforce Commission. According to SeaWorld San Antonio Park President Byron Surrett, the COVID-19 pandemic took a toll on the theme park’s attendance and revenue. Laid-off workers can apply for future positions at any SeaWorld park. The same is true for the travel, tourism, entertainment, and hospitality industries, and the operations of SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment, Inc. – SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment, Inc.

SeaWorld San Antonio offering free admission for military veterans, their families

SAN ANTONIO – Military veterans and their families can receive free admission to SeaWorld San Antonio throughout the summer. SeaWorld announced that starting Wednesday, veterans and retirees can redeem free tickets for themselves and up to three guests through Nov. 11 via www.wavesofhonor.com. The offer is valid at SeaWorld San Antonio, as well as SeaWorld Orlando and Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. Upon reopening, the offer will be valid at SeaWorld San Diego and Busch Gardens Williamsburg. Waves of Honor already offers active duty military free admission for members and three guests, SeaWorld stated in a news release.

Disney to start reopening its Florida theme parks with Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom on July 11

Disney said Wednesday it has proposed a phased reopening of its Florida-based theme parks in July. Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom are expected to be the first to reopen on July 11. He did say the company would adhere to the CDC's 6 foot social distancing guidelines when limiting attendance. Disney's Florida parks will have additional hand washing stations, temperature checks and social distancing measures throughout, including at restaurants and lines for rides. Contactless payments via Apple Pay, Google Pay and Disney Magic Bands will be encouraged.

Baby Sea Otter Orphaned in Alaska Learns to Swim in Her New Home

Splashing, playing and getting stronger by the day, Cinder the baby sea otter is settling in nicely to her new home at SeaWorld in California. The little otter was found stranded by strong currents near Homer, Alaska, when she was just 5 weeks old. On Sept. 7, Cinder was flown to SeaWorld in San Diego so that she could be cared for in the facility's sea otter nursery. When she is a little older, she will be introduced to SeaWorld's four other female sea otters: Mocha, Coco, Clover and Pumpkin. Fish and Wildlife Service when she was rescued, Cinder will continue to live at SeaWorld.

New details announced about upcoming SeaWorld San Antonio wooden roller coaster

SAN ANTONIO - New details were announced Thursday about a roller coaster that, according to SeaWorld San Antonio, will soon be the tallest, fastest and longest wooden roller coaster in Texas. SeaWorld officials said the coaster will be across from the new Turtle Reef exhibit between Orca Stadium and the Rio Loco river rapids ride. "Texas Stingray marks a new wave of excitement for SeaWorld," said SeaWorld San Antonio's vice president of general services, Scott Bacon. BABY BOOM: 7th sea lion pup born at SeaWorld San Antonio this summer

SeaWorld San Antonio is celebrating several new additions this summer in what the park is referring to as a baby boom. Another California sea lion pup was born this week, bringing the total to seven new pups in the last two months. That's not the only kind of baby boom the aquatic park is experiencing this summer. There has also been an uptick in the number of babies born to the park's animal care specialists. Team members from the orca, penguin and sea lion departments all welcomed new bundles of joy as well.
