Gun allegedly used in Whataburger shooting found by divers in River Walk, SAPD says
SAN ANTONIO – A gun that was allegedly used during a shooting at the downtown Whataburger last week was recovered by divers in the River Walk portion of the San Antonio River on Thursday. San Antonio police said divers from the Texas Department of Public Safety located the weapon in the water near East Commerce Street and Losoya Street. The suspect, later identified as 18-year-old Pedro Ortega, tossed the weapon into the river as downtown bike patrol officers chased him, police said. Man arrested after firing gunshots into Whataburger in downtown San Antonio, SAPD says
SAN ANTONIO – A man was arrested after firing gunshots into a downtown Whataburger restaurant and throwing his weapon into the San Antonio River, San Antonio police said. No injuries were reported in the shooting that occurred Friday night in the 400 block of East Commerce Street. Four downtown bike patrol officers went after Ortega and arrested him, but not before he was able to throw his handgun into the San Antonio River, according to police. The shooting happened Friday night in downtown San Antonio, on E. Commerce and Losoya Streets. Ortega was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and officials are still working to retrieve the gun from the river.

San Antonio students can score prizes with Spurs What’cha Reading Program
SAN ANTONIO – Teachers in San Antonio and the surrounding areas can now register their classes as part of this year’s Spurs What’cha Reading program, which will take place starting Oct. 19, a press release said. The reading and literacy program is for students in first through fifth grade and is designed to encourage students of all reading levels to expand their reading abilities. “In the more than 20 years that Whataburger has partnered with the Spurs to support the What’cha Reading program, it’s been such a joy to see so many children develop a love of reading,” said Whataburger Sponsorship Director Jeff Altman. Texas – It’s probably common knowledge at this point that Texans love Whataburger but what you might not know is that they don’t hate In-N-Out Burger as much as it may seem. Texas woman says she was fired by Whataburger for wearing a Black Lives Matter mask
Over the summer, two Texas teachers faced disciplinary action from their schools, one for wearing a mask and the other for displaying a Black Lives Matter sign, among other signs, in her virtual classroom. Meanwhile in Ohio, a Taco Bell worker was fired for refusing to take off his Black Lives Matter mask; the same happened to a convenience store worker in New Jersey. Ma'kiya Congious, 19, lost her job at the fast-food chain shortly after her supervisor told her to remove her Black Lives Matter mask, when a white customer complained, said her attorney Jason Smith. In the complaint, Congious said she was let go by the fast-food restaurant because of her race and for having the words “Black Lives Matter” on her mask. I hope she sues,” said Ashton P. Woods, founder of the Houston chapter of Black Lives Matter, in a statement.

Aransas Pass, Texas Well, this is something you dont see every day but I guess alligators get late-night cravings as well. The Aransas Pass Police Department posted on Facebook a video of a small alligator outside of a Whataburger. The post has since gone viral with over a thousand shares and many wondering if he got to take a to-go snack. According to the TPWD, male American alligators can grow up to 11.5 feet at 20 years old. Alligator-human conflicts are rare in Texas, according to TPWD.

Vigil held for ex-Madison HS football star killed in SA shooting
SAN ANTONIO – A candlelight vigil was held Tuesday night to remember the “positive spirit” of a former standout football player at Madison High School killed this week. Friends and family organized the candlelight vigil, which was held at the Whataburger where he was found shot. Hoffman, who went on to play football for West Texas A&M University, had a bullet wound to his upper body.
