SAPD: Motorcyclist taken to hospital after crashing on North Side road
A motorcyclist was hospitalized after a crash on Friday, March 12, 2021, in the 800 block of Bitters Road. SAN ANTONIO – A 38-year-old motorcyclist was hospitalized overnight following an accident on a North Side street. San Antonio police said the crash happened around 1:45 a.m. Friday in the 800 block of Bitters Road, just east of Blanco Road. Details surrounding the crash have yet to be released, but officers said the motorcyclist laid his bike down while riding on Bitters. No other vehicles were involved in the accident, and a driver pulled over to block traffic and call for help.
Driver in custody after short vehicle chase, crash near Castle Hills, police say
SAN ANTONIO – A driver is in police custody following a vehicle chase and crash near Castle Hills early Monday morning, the Castle Hills Police Department said. The incident began around 1:30 a.m. near Blanco Road and Jackson Keller Road. According to police, CHPD officers attempted a traffic stop but the driver instead sped off, turning onto Dresden Drive at a high-rate of speed and then rolling the vehicle over. Police said the vehicle came to a stop between some power lines and a nearby brick wall. The driver had an outstanding warrant and will also be charged with evading arrest, police said.

Castle Hills police respond to a crash on Monda, Jan. 18, 2021, on the Loop 410 exit ramp to Blanco Road. SAN ANTONIO – A driver was sent to the hospital after he crashed his car into metal dividers on an exit ramp overnight, according to Castle Hills police. The driver wrecked just after 1 a.m. Monday on the Loop 410 exit ramp to Blanco Road, police said. He was transported to University Hospital in stable condition and did not suffer any serious injuries. Police said he was intoxicated, but details on possible charges are unclear at this time.

A 49-year-old woman was killed Wednesday night while attempting to cross a North Side road, San Antonio police said. Woman hit while crossing street dies from injuries, identified by San Antonio police
SAN ANTONIO – A woman who was knocked unconscious after she was hit by an SUV on Wednesday evening has died from her injuries. San Antonio police said the woman, identified as Thanalakshmi Subramaniam, 49, was struck while crossing the 6400 block of Blanco Road from east to west. She was hit by a Lincoln MKX that was traveling south on Blanco Road and knocked unconcious, police said. Subramaniam was taken to University Hospital but was pronounced dead just before 9 p.m.Police said Subramaniam was not in a crosswalk at the time of the incident. The driver of the SUV stopped and tried to help the woman, police said.

Arson investigators looking for cause of fire at apartment complex on North Side
SAN ANTONIO – Arson investigators with the San Antonio Fire Department were called after a laundry room at an apartment complex on the North Side caught fire early Monday. The fire happened around 2:40 a.m. at the complex in the 100 block of Dresden Drive, not far from Blanco Road and Jackson Keller Road. Fire officials said crews were able to quickly knock down the fire in the laundry room. The estimated cost of damage is $30,000. San Antonio police were also at the scene.
Wurzbach Parkway to close as 'land bridge' nears completion
As work nears completion on the one-of-its-kind Robert L.B. Tobin Land Bridge and officials plan a public opening in early December, the construction at Phil Hardberger Park still is causing occasional road closures. This weekend, Wurzbach Parkway will be closed to all traffic from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday between Northwest Military Highway and Blanco Road, so crews can continue building the bridge’s infrastructure. Portion of Wurzbach Parkway on Northwest Side of San Antonio to be closed this weekend
SAN ANTONIO – Wurzbach Parkway between Northwest Military Highway and Blanco Road will be closed this weekend. According to a news release, the road closure will begin Friday at 9 p.m. and end at 5 a.m. Monday. Tobin Land Bridge, which will provide a safe pathway for people and animals to cross into currently divided sections of Phil Hardberger Park. This project includes $13 Million in funding from the voter-approved 2017 Bond and the Phil Hardberger Park Conservancy provided $10 Million in donor contributions.
Investigators trying figure out who started garage fire at North Side apartment complex
SAN ANTONIO – Investigators are working to determine who started a garage fire at a North Side apartment complex overnight. The fire was called in just after midnight Thursday at the Capistrano Condominiums in the 14100 block of Churchill Estates Boulevard, not far from Blanco Road. Firefighters said someone dumped a bunch of trash in front of a garage and lit it on fire. The overhang was a bit charred as well as the garage door, firefighters said. The San Antonio Police Department and the San Antonio Fire Department both responded to the call.
Driver, 26, killed in Loop 1604 accident that closed lanes for hours
SAN ANTONIO – A 26-year-old man was killed in an accident along Loop 1604 on the North Side Wednesday morning. San Antonio police responded to the wreck around 6 a.m. on the westbound lanes of Loop 1604 near Stone Oak Parkway before Highway 281. The driver lost control and crashed into the other vehicles, causing a chain reaction, police said. The westbound lanes of Loop 1604 were closed during the investigation, but have since reopened, according to the Texas Department of Transportation. A major accident has been reported on Loop 1604 near Blanco Road on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2020.
Man killed in high-speed crash on the North Side, police say
SAN ANTONIO One man was killed after a high-speed crash on the North Side overnight, according to San Antonio police. The driver of the convertible was killed from the impact, police said. A woman in the passenger seat of the white BMW was taken to Northeast Baptist in stable condition, officials said. Driver in critical condition after T-bone crash in north San Antonio
SAN ANTONIO A driver is in critical condition after a two-vehicle crash on the far North Side, officials said. The crash happened Saturday afternoon near the intersection of Blanco Road and Calico Landing. Police say one of the drivers was traveling north on Blanco Road and was T-boned by the other vehicle on Calico Landing. One of the drivers has life-threatening injuries, and the other has minor injuries, officials say. Police did not release any additional information about other occupants in the vehicles.

2 juveniles in custody after car chase in Castle Hills
CASTLE HILLS, Texas – Castle Hills police have arrested two juveniles and are searching for two more following a brief car chase overnight. The incident occurred just before 4 a.m. near Blanco Road and Weizmann Street on the city’s North Side. Officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver sped off, leading them on a short chase in a neighborhood near Blanco Road. Police said the driver eventually pulled over at Weizmann and Winewood Drive, where four juveniles then ran on foot. Police did not give a list of the possible charges the juveniles are facing.

Pedestrian hit, killed by vehicle while trying to cross Blanco Road
SAN ANTONIO – A 52-year-old woman was hit and killed by a vehicle while attempting to cross a North Side street Sunday night, San Antonio police said. The crash occurred around 8 p.m. in the 10700 block of Blanco Road, near the intersection of West Avenue. According to police, Hermenegilda Fuentes Loa was trying to cross Blanco from west to east when she was struck by a 2008 blue Lincoln traveling northbound. Police said Loa was wearing dark clothing and not in a crosswalk when she was hit. Authorities said the area is dimly lit and that the driver of the vehicle did stop to render aid.
Police: Man robs North Side Circle K at gunpoint
SAN ANTONIO – A clerk at a North Side convenience store experienced a scary ordeal early Tuesday when a man entered the store wielding a weapon and demanding money. The robbery occurred just after 2 a.m. at a Circle K store in the 12000 block of Blanco Road, not far from Winston Churchill High School. According to the San Antonio Police Department, a man walked into the convenience store with a gun and demanded money from the register. Police said the store clerk gave the man an undisclosed amount of cash, and the man fled. Authorities said it is also possible that the man could be connected to a string of convenience store robberies just last week.
Arsonist sought in building fire started with Molotov cocktail
SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio fire investigators are trying to determine who started a fire at a North Side building by hurling a Molotov cocktail at a ground-floor office window. Firefighters were called around 12 a.m. Monday to the building in the 7400 block of Blanco Road. They found damage to a window of the ground-floor office and inside the office. Bicyclist killed after colliding with pickup on North Side identified
SAN ANTONIO - UPDATE: The Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as 40-year-old Rudy Montalbo Jr.(Previously)A bicyclist is dead after crashing with a pickup truck on the citys North Side, police said. The collision happened near the intersection of Blanco Road and Dresden Drive on Wednesday evening. Police said a woman driving a pickup did not see the bicyclist, who was heading west on Dresden, and hit him. The driver stopped and is cooperating with police. Its unclear if she will face charges.
Sweat at scene of bank robbery used to help in identifying suspect, police say
SAN ANTONIO - Sweat helped San Antonio police crack the case of a bank robbery that happened in December 2018 at the Comerica Bank near Blanco Road and Loop 410. An arrest affidavit states that, during the robbery, Erick Sanchez handed an employee an envelope containing a written demand for cash. The employee gave him the money and Sanchez left the area, the affidavit says. Investigators said Sanchez was sweating profusely and his sweat dripped onto the counter. They used that evidence, along with pictures, to confirm Sanchez was their suspect.
Busted water pipe floods San Antonio apartments
SAN ANTONIO - Thousands of gallons of water rushed through an apartment complex and a busted water pipe is to blame. The bursting waters affected the first floor of building six at Arriba En Blanco Apartments located at 5200 Blanco Road. Police, firefighters and San Antonio Water System crews remained at the property for hours Sunday morning to help residents and contact management. According to SAWS, they needed permission from the owner to shut off the water, but they werent able to make contact with administrators. Her two-bedroom apartment is a few feet away from the busted pipe and sustained substantial damages, including the collapse of the roof.
Pickup truck crashes into utility pole, causes power outage in area
SAN ANTONIO - Some residents near Castle Hills were without power for a short time after a pickup truck crashed into a utility pole late Wednesday night, Castle Hills police said. The crash occurred around 11:30 p.m. near the intersection of Blanco Road and West Rector. According to police, a couple was traveling on Blanco Road at a high rate of speed when the driver of the pickup truck lost control and crashed. Police said the crash caused a bright flash of light and that power to homes, businesses and traffic lights around the area went out. CPS Energy was able to restore the power in roughly 30 minutes, officials said.
DPS identifies pair killed in multi-vehicle crash on State Highway 46
COMAL COUNTY, Texas - Two people are dead after a multi-vehicle crash Thursday evening on State Highway 46 between Guadalupe State Park and Blanco Road in Comal County, the Texas Department of Public Safety said. Jason Cantu, 42, and Magdalena Hernandez, 21, died after their 2016 Hyundai Accent was hit head-on by 2014 Ford F-250 truck. The F-250 then collided head-on with the Hyundai Accent, just before a 2015 Toyota Camry struck it from behind. DPS said everyone involved in the crash were wearing their seat belts. The Texas Department of Public Safety, the Comal County Sheriffs Office and the Bulverde Police Department all responded to the scene.
