Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex finally getting H-E-B stores
SAN ANTONIOS – H-E-B is taking its Primo Picks up north with an expansion into the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The San Antonio-based grocery chain on Friday said two stores, one in Frisco and the other in Plano, are slated to open in fall 2022. Officials said details about the new stores will be given at groundbreaking ceremonies. This won’t be the grocery chain’s first presence in the North Texas Metroplex, though. Central Market stores opened in the area in 2001 and serve communities in Dallas, Plano, Southlake and Fort Worth.

H-E-B to donate $1 million to Texas food banks
SAN ANTONIO – H-E-B will donate $1 million to support 18 Texas food banks and continue to work with supplier partners to provide aid to needy residents affected by the winter storm, the grocer announced Wednesday. According to a news release, H-E-B has already delivered 23 truckloads of food as well as nearly $100,000 in Meal Simple meals to food banks. H-E-B works directly with food banks that are affiliated with Feeding Texas, a member of Feeding America, the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief organization. The grocer is also launching a donation campaign online and in all its stores across the state. All funds from the donation campaign will support Texas food banks affiliated with Feeding Texas.

H-E-B puts limits on water, propane tanks during winter storm
SAN ANTONIO – Update (4:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16): H-E-B has added water to the list of purchasing limits during the winter weather storm. H-E-B stores in San Antonio are expected to open at noon and close at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. After snow fell Sunday night into Monday, San Antonio will stay below freezing temperatures until sometime Tuesday afternoon. Original (7 a.m. Monday, Feb. 15): H-E-B stores have placed a purchasing limit on propane tanks during the winter storm that has struck Central and South Texas. San Antonio and Hill Country H-E-B stores will be open on Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Market stores will operate on that schedule.

Amazon edges out H-E-B as 2020′s top grocer, report shows

According to the study, Amazon jumped ahead two places from last year’s report and dethroned H-E-B, who topped the list for 2019. The study cited momentum from the COVID-19 pandemic and a customer value proposition all for ingredients of Amazon’s projected success in 2021. “They also are second in Speed and first in Digital, two of the most important preference drivers for Covid Momentum.
H-E-B launches registration portal for COVID-19 vaccines
SAN ANTONIO – H-E-B has launched a registration portal on its website for people who are looking to get the COVID-19 vaccine, but there are no slots available in San Antonio because the pharmacies are still waiting for more vaccine doses. Registration will be made available once H-E-B receives more allocations of the vaccine. H-E-B is currently out of COVID-19 vaccines but the Texas grocer has applied to receive more. “Once we have the vaccine, customers will be able to schedule on that site. H-E-B selling Fiesta-colored Spurs Sherbet
SAN ANTONIO – The throwback Fiesta colors that inspired this season’s Spurs City Edition jerseys have also inspired a sweet collaboration between the Spurs and H-E-B called Spurs Sherbet. The sherbet debuted on store shelves on Jan. 4 with a flavor combination of strawberry, orange and blue raspberry sherbet. To kick off 2021, the chefs at H-E-B have prepared a delicious recipe of sheet pan bruschetta chicken with potatoes that’s perfect for meal prepping. Line a sheet pan with foil or parchment paper. In a bowl, combine tomatoes, olive oil and garlic, toss to coat then spread out on sheet pan. Cut chicken breasts into thirds on a bias or angle so they will lay flat in pan. SAN ANTONIO – The Butt family, proud owners of Texas’ beloved grocery chain H-E-B, are one of the richest families in the U.S., according to Forbes. Coming in at an estimated net worth of $17.8 billion, the Butt family fortune puts them in 15th place for wealthiest families. At the top of Forbes’ richest families list is the Walton family with a $247 billion fortune thanks to their ownership of Walmart. In June 2016, Forbes estimated the H-E-B family fortune to be closer to $11 billion. H-E-B was founded in 1905 in Kerrville by Florence Butt who opened her petite grocery store with just $60, Forbes reported.
H-E-B is out of COVID-19 vaccines but has applied to receive more
SAN ANTONIO – H-E-B pharmacies are officially out of the COVID-19 vaccine - at least temporarily - but they have requested more. “At this time H‑E‑B has administered and scheduled all the vaccines we were allocated,” said Campos. Campos also said that “Texas’ total allocation from the federal government has decreased. Pharmacies do not accept walk-ins because of the vaccine’s fragile shelf life which requires it to be used within hours of opening a new vial, according to H-E-B officials. Each Covid-19 vaccine vial has 10 doses.
