18-wheeler took out road sign and power lines on I-35 near Eisenhauer Road on Tuesday afternoon. San Antonio police said that the estimated damage to the power and communication lines is $1.5 million dollars. The collision happened at Interstate Highway 35 North and Eisenhauer Road and involved an 18-wheeler. School mental health pilot program expands into more districts
SAN ANTONIO – Two years ago, KSAT12 was first introduced to a collaborative program involving six local agencies. The mental health mobile unit was a way to give students, their families, faculty and staff a place to go for their mental health needs. The CARE Zone opened up at South San ISD and has since flourished, with now Harlandale and Edgewood ISDs adding it to their schools. The program’s curriculum has also expanded as a result of the pandemic and services became widely available virtually. SAPD: Woman fatally stabbed on Southwest Side; police searching for missing vehicle
SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police are investigating after a woman was fatally stabbed on the city’s Southwest Side early Monday morning. Officers were called just before 8 a.m. to the 5500 block of Little Creek Drive, not far from Old Pearsall Road and Loop 410 after receiving word of a person injured. According to police, the woman was stabbed and they are now presently looking for her car. A sergeant with SAPD said the victim was between 30 to 50 years old and that it was her son who called for help. SAPD said they have a police helicopter assisting in the search for a white Camaro with a black racing stripe.

Since February is American Heart Month, KSAT is trying to help make people aware of their heart health. “My father had just turned 55 when he had the one heart attack that took his life,” Stewart said. Though heart disease can be genetic and come in many forms, it also may be preventable. “Unfortunately, with what diabetes does, it is one of the major risk factors for heart disease. If you have any questions on heart health, there are resources easily available at the American Heart Association.
Firefighters respond to fire at fireworks stand in West Bexar County
SAN ANTONIO – Bexar County firefighters responded to a fire at a fireworks stand in West Bexar County early Thursday morning. In a video sent to the KSAT newsroom, firefighters were seen battling a blaze around 6 a.m. near a Mr. W. stand near on S. Ellison just inside Loop 1604. The Bexar County Fire Department said the fire was put out around 7:45 a.m. No one was hurt by the fire. The fire department said they do not believe the cause to be suspicious in nature and that the damage is estimated at $55,000. The Bexar County Fire Marshals office is conducting an investigation.

Ammunition in burning shed creates dangerous situation for firefighters
SAN ANTONIO – Firefighters battling a fire in a shed in far south Bexar County had to stand up to more than just danger from the flames and smoke. They also were met by ammunition exploding inside that burning shed. A Bexar County Sheriff’s Office deputy was the first to arrive at the scene on Black Powder near Wilted Oak shortly after 4:30 a.m. Monday. He said he saw large flames coming from the back portion of the property and could hear ammunition going off inside the shed. At one point, they were concerned that it might spread to a home near the shed.

Ammunition goes off as firefighters respond to house fire in Olmos Park
OLMOS PARK, Texas – Firefighters have responded to a fire at a single-story home in Olmos Park early Wednesday morning. The fire was called in around 8 a.m. at a home in the 100 block of Paloma Drive, not far from McCullough Avenue and Basse Road. Firefighters said when they arrived they found flames coming from the roof. Authorities say two people live inside the house, but that neither were home at the time of the fire. Police said ammunition inside the home at one point went off, forcing firefighters to back off.
Van fire damages vacant mobile home, trailer just northwest of downtown
SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio firefighters responded to a fire on the near Northwest Side early Tuesday morning. The fire was called in around 5 a.m. in the 100 block of Albert Street, not far from Culebra Road and North Zarzamora Street. Firefighters said the fire appears to have started in a van and then spread to a vacant mobile home and trailer. They are worried sparks could catch the trailers that are nearby. According to the San Antonio Fire Department website, as many as 10 units answered the call.

Overnight gunfire in Medical Center area leaves man wounded
SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police are investigating a shooting in the Medical Center area overnight. They found out about it when the victim showed up at a hospital in that area around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. Police believe the shooting happened nearby, at the Interstate 10 overpass at Medical Drive. Investigators say the victim was inside a car at the time when he was shot. Police spent some time searching an apartment complex and parking structure in the 5100 block of Medical Center for evidence connected to the shooting.

KSAT12 checked with the San Antonio e-commerce software company Searchspring to breakdown the numbers and explain what it means for small businesses. According to Searchspring’s findings, consumers spent $1 million every minute on Black Friday and spent $1 billion on Cyber Monday. And then going into Saturday, you saw almost $5 billion spent on small businesses online alone. So you’re really seeing people in the community wanting to rally together, support their local businesses, even if that means doing so online,” Martin said. This pandemic has hurt a lot of local small businesses, so there are ways to use this information to your advantage.
Popular San Antonio burger joint closes original location on the West Side
SAN ANTONIO – With accolades like being called the best burger in Texas, many were surprised to see Papa’s Burgers original location shut down. Owner Robert Walker posted the news on social media saying Nov. 12 was the last day in business. This isn’t the only Papa’s Burger location in San Antonio, a second was opened earlier this year on San Pedro Avenue. Walker is looking at possibly relocating the original location but nothing has been confirmed yet.
