Woman hit, killed trying to cross access road of Loop 410, police say
SAN ANTONIO โ A woman was hit and killed while attempting to cross an access road of Loop 410 on the cityโs West Side late Monday night, San Antonio police said. The crash happened around 10:20 p.m. in the 6800 block of Northwest Loop 410 near Alamo Downs Parkway, not far from Culebra Road. The woman hit was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman killed has not been identified. The San Antonio Police Department, the San Antonio Fire Department and EMS all answered the call.
Medical Examiner identifies man hit, killed by pickup truck while trying to cross Culebra Road
SAN ANTONIO โ Update:The Bexar County Medical Examiner has identified a man who was hit and killed by a pickup truck when he tried to run across Culebra Road Saturday night. The man was identified as 33-year-old Juan Meza, according to the MEโs Office. Police said Meza was trying to run across Culebra, from the south end to the north end, when he was hit by the pickup truck. WellMed administering 9,000 doses this week by appointment to residents in south, west San Antonio
SAN ANTONIO โ Unlike the City of San Antonioโs mass vaccination clinic at the Alamodome, which required registration online or by calling 311, two other clinics on the South Side and West Side of San Antonio operated by using a toll-free number. WellMed -- in partnership with City Council Districts 3, 4 and 7 -- said that the toll-free number (833-968-1745) was quickly jammed as community members attempted to make an appointment. Van fire damages vacant mobile home, trailer just northwest of downtown
SAN ANTONIO โ San Antonio firefighters responded to a fire on the near Northwest Side early Tuesday morning. The fire was called in around 5 a.m. in the 100 block of Albert Street, not far from Culebra Road and North Zarzamora Street. Firefighters said the fire appears to have started in a van and then spread to a vacant mobile home and trailer. They are worried sparks could catch the trailers that are nearby. According to the San Antonio Fire Department website, as many as 10 units answered the call.
Family of shooting victim calls for justice as search for gunman continues
SAN ANTONIO โ A father and soon-to-be grandfather was shot and killed earlier this week. The gunman is still out there and the family is calling for justice. John Garcia, 35, was killed Monday night at an apartment complex on Callaghan, near Culebra Road, on the West Side. Bridge demolition causing major intersection, Loop 410 lane closures this week
SAN ANTONIO โ A major intersection and a portion of Loop 410 will be closed Monday through Wednesday as crews with the Texas Department of Transportation demolish a bridge. Two main lanes of Loop 410 will be closed in both directions from Culebra Road to Ingram Road from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. during the demolition. The intersection at Loop 410 and Military Drive will also be closed while the bridge is demolished. TxDOT is asking motorists to seek an alternate route during the closures.
Police search for driver who crashed pickup truck into utility pole
SAN ANTONIO โ San Antonio police are searching for a driver who crashed their pickup truck into utility pole late Thursday night. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. at the intersection of Vanley Drive and Culebra Road on the cityโs West Side. According to police, a large pickup truck collided with a utility pole, breaking it completely off the base. Police said officers found serious damage to the windshield, but could not find the driver. Police did not say what charges the driver may face once they are located.

Man attempting to cross Loop 410 hit, killed by pickup truck, police say
SAN ANTONIO โ A man attempting to cross Loop 410 was hit and killed by a pickup truck early Tuesday morning, San Antonio police said. The crash occurred around 4 a.m. in the 7300 block of Loop 410, not far from the Culebra Road exit. According to police, the man was crossing the southbound main lanes of Loop 410 from east to west on foot when a Ford F-250 traveling southbound hit him. Armed man killed by SAPD at Northwest Side apartment was shot by 6 officers responding to childrenโs screams, police report says
According to the report, officers responding to the call originally couldnโt find anything, but as they were in the parking lot getting ready to leave, they heard a gunshot and children yelling and screaming inside an apartment. When the officers went to the apartment, a woman and five children ran out the unit, leaving an armed 44-year-old man inside, the report said. One of the officers tried to get the man, identified as Victor Sanchez, to drop his handgun, the report said. None of the officers were injured and will be placed on administrative leave pending a criminal and administrative investigations. According to the report, Sanchez was out on bond for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon case where the woman was the victim.
Woman injured in cutting on far West Side, police say
SAN ANTONIO โ San Antonio police are investigating after a woman was found cut in the arm on the cityโs far West Side early Thursday morning. Officers were called around 6:15 a.m. to the 7700 block of Culebra Road, not far from Potranco Road, after receiving word of a person injured. According to police, the woman was cut during an assault. Investigators say they are receiving several conflicting stories about the incident. Officials said there are as many as three neighbors who police still want to question to get information.
Authorities ID man killed by pickup truck in hit-and-run crash
SAN ANTONIO A pedestrian who was hit and killed by a driver in a pickup truck late Tuesday night has been identified. Pablo Paul Hernandez, 42, died of blunt force injuries sustained in the incident before 11 p.m. in the 1000 block of Culebra Road, not far from North Zarzamora Street and Cincinnati Avenue. According to police, Hernandez was walking across Culebra Road in a crosswalk but was against the pedestrian signal when he was struck by a pickup truck traveling eastbound. The driver of the pickup truck continued eastbound and failed to stop and render aid, police said. Hernandez was taken to University Hospital by EMS, where he later died.

Driver who led BCSO deputies on chase with baby in back seat identified
SAN ANTONIO โ A driver is facing multiple charges after leading Bexar County deputies on a chase with an infant in the back seat, according to officials. The chase happened around 11:55 p.m. Saturday night, beginning on Culebra Road and FM 1560. However, he refused to stop, leading authorities on a chase for several miles down Culebra Road and reaching speeds of 80 miles per hour, officials said. The infant was uninjured during the incident and deputies were able to contact other family members to have him picked up. According to jail records, Hollie is facing charges of child endangerment and evading arrest.

Ownerโs businesses burn while he was at bible study
โI was going to bible study and they called me that there was a fire, so I knew there was nothing I could do. Ore-Coker and firefighters said the fire started in the back of his African-Caribbean cafe, Mumsyโs Kitchen. A state inspector on scene told KSAT the row of businesses most affected will need some work done to repair smoke damage. The Labor Finders business, two businesses away from the Mumsyโs Kitchen, is one of the few still without electricity. San Antonio Fire Department arson investigators are continuing to look into how the fire started in the cafe kitchen.
Driver killed in head-on crash on Culebra Road
SAN ANTONIO โ A driver was killed in a head-on vehicle crash between a Mustang and a sport utility vehicle late Tuesday night. The Bexar County Medical Examinerโs office has identified the driver as Gilberto Trevino, 25. According to police, just after 9 p.m. Trevino lost control of his vehicle in the 6900 block of Culebra Road and drove over the median and crashed into the SUV. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of SUV was taken to University Hospital with minor injuries.
