Firefighters respond to fire at fireworks stand in West Bexar County
SAN ANTONIO โ Bexar County firefighters responded to a fire at a fireworks stand in West Bexar County early Thursday morning. In a video sent to the KSAT newsroom, firefighters were seen battling a blaze around 6 a.m. near a Mr. W. stand near on S. Ellison just inside Loop 1604. The Bexar County Fire Department said the fire was put out around 7:45 a.m. No one was hurt by the fire. The fire department said they do not believe the cause to be suspicious in nature and that the damage is estimated at $55,000. The Bexar County Fire Marshals office is conducting an investigation.
Pair avoid serious injury in rollover crash on NW Side, police say
SAN ANTONIO โ A man and a woman were not seriously hurt after rolling their vehicle on the access road of Interstate 10 late Sunday night, San Antonio police said. The crash happened around 11:30 p.m. near Sherwood Drive, not far from Vance Jackson Road on the cityโs Northwest Side. According to police, the man for an unknown reason lost control and rolled the vehicle. The San Antonio Police Department, the San Antonio Fire Department and EMS all answered the call. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

SAPD: Man taken to hospital after appearing at hotel with gunshot wound to face
SAN ANTONIO A local man was taken to an area hospital after he appeared at a Northwest Side hotel with a gunshot wound to the face early Wednesday morning, San Antonio police said. Officers were called around 3:30 a.m. to the 1600 block of Babcock Road, after receiving word of someone injured. According to police, the victim had showed up at a get together at the Star Inn Hotel near Ingram Road and Loop 410 and told people there that he had been shot. Police said someone tried to drive the man to a hospital, but pulled over in a Golds Gym parking lot on Babcock Road to call for help. The victim was taken by EMS to University Hospital for his injuries.
Firefighters deal with smoke, electrical problem at NW Side H-E-B
SAN ANTONIO San Antonio firefighters responding to a call for a structure fire at a Northwest Side H-E-B early Thursday morning instead found a bit of smoke and small electrical problem. Firefighters arrived just after 1 a.m. to the H-E-B grocery store in the 9900 block of Wurzbach Road, not far from Interstate 10 to find light smoke around the pharmacy. Firefighters said they laddered up to the roof and found the issue to be part of the ventilation system. Fire officials said they managed to fix the issue and that workers were allowed back into the building a short while later. There were no reports of injuries.
Mail thefts on Northwest Side keeping police busy, annoy residents
SAN ANTONIO People in a Northwest Side neighborhood woke up to bad news at their mail boxes Thursday morning. Police arrested Juan Benavides, 50, in connection with mail thefts at an apartment complex in the 3700 block of Medical Drive. An arrest warrant affidavit says he was caught on camera May 30, prying into two cluster boxes there and stealing mail from 55 individual boxes. They ask anyone who might recognize him as someone who targeted their mail to call their Prue Property Crimes Unit at (210) 207-8326. Were gonna work with the postal service to see about getting some more secure type of box, he said.

SAN ANTONIO โ One person is hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle overnight on the Southwest Side, according to San Antonio police. The crash happened around midnight on General Hudnell Drive and Billy Mitchell Boulevard. Authorities said a man was driving southbound when he hit someone walking across the street. Man, 70, killed after being struck by vehicle on NW SideThe victim was taken to University Hospital and is in serious condition. The driver told police he did not see the person crossing the street at the time of the crash and investigators have ruled the incident as an accident.
